Interim Payments Lawyer (12-Month Contract); January 2027 start 📍 London, Belfast or Dublin (Hybrid)

A leading global financial institution is seeking an experienced Payments Lawyer to join its legal team on a 12-month contract basis, supporting one of the world's largest transaction banking and payments businesses.

This is an excellent opportunity to work at the forefront of payments innovation, advising on new product initiatives, regulatory developments and strategic business projects across the UK and Europe.

The Role

You will provide legal and regulatory support to payment products and services, partnering closely with product, compliance, risk and business stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions.

Responsibilities

  • Advising on payments products, services and related regulatory developments.
  • Supporting new product launches and strategic business initiatives.
  • Providing legal guidance on UK and EU regulatory requirements impacting payment services.
  • Partnering with product, compliance and risk teams to assess and manage legal and regulatory risks.
  • Advising on governance, policy and regulatory change programmes.
  • Working closely with legal colleagues across global and regional teams.

About You

  • Qualified lawyer (England & Wales, Ireland or another common law jurisdiction).
  • Ideally at least 3-8 years' PQE.
  • Experience gained within a bank, fintech, payments business, regulator or leading law firm.
  • Strong knowledge of UK and EU payments regulation, including Payment Services Regulations / PSD2 and broader financial services regulatory frameworks.
  • Commercial, pragmatic and confident working with senior stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience supporting payments, cash management, transaction banking or related financial products would be highly advantageous.
