Interim Planning Lawyer (6-12 Month Contract) - Top City Law Firm
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Planning Lawyer to join our client, a leading international law firm on an initial 12-month contract, with an immediate start available.
This role offers a high degree of flexibility, with predominantly remote working available, alongside occasional office attendance as required. The successful candidate will join a highly regarded team advising on a broad range of planning matters across major development and infrastructure projects.
The Role
You will provide specialist advice across all aspects of planning law, with a particular focus on matters arising under the Town and Country Planning Act 1990. Working closely with clients, project teams, technical consultants, and planning authorities, you will play a key role in supporting complex and high-profile projects.

Key Responsibilities
- Advising on planning applications, appeals, enforcement matters, and planning strategy
- Drafting and negotiating Section 106 Agreements, unilateral undertakings, and related planning documentation
- Advising on permitted development rights, listed buildings, conservation areas, and Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) matters
- Supporting clients on planning risk, compliance, and regulatory issues
- Liaising with local planning authorities, the Planning Inspectorate, and other key stakeholders
- Assisting with infrastructure and Development Consent Order (DCO) matters where required
About You
- UK-qualified Solicitor with approximately 5+ years' PQE
- Strong planning law experience, particularly under the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 regime
- Proven experience advising on planning applications, appeals, and Section 106 Agreements
- Sound understanding of planning policy and related environmental and property law matters
- Experience of DCOs, the Planning Act 2008, or nationally significant infrastructure projects is advantageous but not essential
- Able to work independently whilst collaborating effectively with wider project teams
