A large and well-established public sector organisation is seeking an experienced Procurement Officer to join its procurement team on a 6-month interim assignment. The organisation delivers a broad range of services across multiple spend areas and is committed to ensuring that procurement activity is compliant, transparent, and delivers best value for the communities it serves.
This is a highly flexible role, offering a hybrid working arrangement with attendance in the office required just a few days per month (1-4 days per month depending on business needs).
Your new role
As Procurement Officer, you will support the delivery of end-to-end procurement activity across a diverse portfolio of goods, services, and works contracts. Working closely with stakeholders across the organisation, you will provide procurement advice and guidance, support tendering exercises, and help ensure all procurement activity complies with legislation.
Key duties will include:
- Managing procurement exercises from initial planning through to contract award.
- Supporting the development of procurement and sourcing strategies.
- Advising stakeholders on compliant procurement processes and best practice.
- Drafting procurement documentation and tender packs.
- Evaluating bids and supporting contract award recommendations.
- Monitoring procurement activity and maintaining accurate records.
- Undertaking market research and supplier engagement activities.
- Supporting procurement reporting, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Working with e-procurement and financial systems to support procurement delivery.

What you'll need to succeed
- Previous experience working within a public sector procurement environment.
- Good working knowledge of the Procurement Act 2023 and public sector procurement regulations.
- Experience managing end-to-end procurement and tendering activities.
- Understanding of the full procurement life cycle, from sourcing strategy through to contract award.
- Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
- Experience using e-procurement platforms and procurement systems.
- Good analytical skills with the ability to interpret procurement data and produce accurate reports.
- Competent user of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- CIPS Level 4 (or equivalent procurement qualification), or currently working towards a recognised procurement qualification.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a busy procurement environment whilst maintaining attention to detail.

What you'll get in return
- £225-250 per day - umbrella rate (Inside IR35).
- 6-month contract.

Desired Skills and Experience
- You must have previous experience of running tenders end to end under PA23.
- Ideally you will be CIPS Level 4 qualified but this is not essential.
