Interim Project Accountant Needed in Newport

An Interim Project Accountant is needed in Newport to support the Financial Controller within the accounting and finance department of a large organization. You'll focus on project-based accounting tasks, ensuring accurate reporting and helping the business stay on top of its financial goals.

Description

An experienced Interim Project Accountant is required to support a Financial Controller on a critical finance improvement project.

This assignment will focus on reviewing and reconciling balance sheet accounts, ensuring the general ledger aligns to supporting sub-ledgers, and resolving historical discrepancies. The successful candidate will play a key role in strengthening financial controls, improving reporting accuracy, and implementing sustainable reconciliation processes.

This is an ideal opportunity for a hands-on accountant who enjoys investigating issues, solving complex problems, and delivering meaningful change within a finance function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and reconcile all key balance sheet accounts.
  • Ensure the general ledger accurately reconciles to supporting sub-ledgers.
  • Investigate and resolve historical unreconciled balances and accounting discrepancies.
  • Analyze and correct mis-postings, duplicate transactions, and coding errors.
  • Review bank, debtor, creditor, fixed asset, and intercompany reconciliations.
  • Support month-end and year-end close activities.
  • Identify control weaknesses and implement robust reconciliation processes.
  • Create clear documentation, procedures, and audit trails.
  • Work closely with finance stakeholders to improve reporting accuracy and controls.
  • Deliver recommendations that provide long-term improvements to the finance function.

  • ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified.
  • Strong financial accounting and balance sheet reconciliation expertise.
  • Experience reconciling complex general ledger and sub-ledger environments.
  • Proven ability to investigate and resolve historic accounting issues.
  • Strong understanding of financial controls and governance.
  • Advanced Excel and data analysis skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Highly Desirable

  • Experience supporting audit activity.
  • Previous involvement in finance transformation or remediation projects.
  • Experience improving month-end close and balance sheet control processes.
  • Exposure to multi-entity or complex reporting environments.

Job Offer

  • Daily rate negotiable dependent on the level of experience.
  • Temporary position with a hybrid working model.
