Shropshire Council

We are seeking an experienced Risk Manager to support the organisation for a six-month period, 2 days per week. This is a key role helping to strengthen our risk management arrangements, improve reporting, and support senior leaders to identify, assess and manage strategic and operational risks effectively.

A current member of the Institute of Risk Management and / or Association of Local Authority Risk Managers. The successful candidate will bring strong experience of risk management, governance and assurance within a local government environment. They will work closely with senior leaders, Statutory Officers and relevant boards or committees to maintain clear risk oversight, support horizon scanning, review risk registers.

About the Role

As a member of the Risk Management function within Legal and Governance, you will support the achievement of these key priorities, making a real difference to the lives of people in Shropshire. Risk management is a fundamental part of how Shropshire Council delivers its organisational principles and corporate priorities. A proactive approach to identifying, assessing and managing risk enables the Council to meet current needs while preparing effectively for future challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the Council’s overall strategic and operational management
  • Provide expert advice, constructive challenge and assurance on the management of strategic and operational risk
  • Support the Council’s wider resilience, governance and internal control arrangements
  • Provide advice to external clients and partners where required
