Leading Fintech | Embedded via Of Counsel Limited | London (Hybrid) | Minimum 4 Days/Week

About Of Counsel

Of Counsel is a London-based fractional legal practice that embeds senior, commercially-minded lawyers directly into fast-growing technology and financial services businesses. We work with clients across fintech, AI platforms, and other innovation companies, most of whom are headquartered in London but operate on a genuinely global basis. Rather than acting as a traditional external adviser, Of Counsel places experienced lawyers inside client legal teams on a part-time or interim basis, giving businesses senior legal capability without the overhead of a full-time hire.

This role is a placement opportunity with one of our fintech clients, working as an embedded member of their in-house legal team.

About the Client

Our client is a leading fintech company widely recognised for its innovation and technical sophistication. The business operates at a fast pace. This is a role for a lawyer who is energised by a fast-moving, highly technical environment rather than daunted by it.

The Opportunity

Of Counsel is seeking an Interim Senior Legal Counsel to embed with the client's legal team for a minimum of four days per week. You will report directly into the Chief Legal Officer (CLO) and join a team that is well regarded internally for being supportive, collegiate and genuinely friendly, this is a high-performing team that also looks out for one another.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

The role is primarily focused on Commercial, but requires an experienced lawyer who is comfortable to handle Product & Regulatory matters which may be incidental to the core commercial work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of commercial contracts workload, including drafting, reviewing and negotiating a broad range of agreements, commercial partnerships, vendor and procurement contracts, licensing, data and technology agreements.
  • Identify, advise on, and manage solutions for non-regulated lending activities and payments matters as they arise.
  • Partner closely with various stakeholder teams to give pragmatic, business-focused legal advice at pace, in a highly technical product environment.
  • Identify and flag payments issues, whether commercial or regulatory perimeter related and escalate appropriately within the legal and compliance function.
  • Support the CLO and wider legal team on ad hoc projects and process improvements as the business scales.

About You

  • Qualified solicitor (England & Wales) or equivalent, with senior post-qualification experience gained in-house and/or at a leading law firm.
  • Strong track record in commercial contracts - confident drafting and negotiating a high volume of agreements independently and at pace.
  • Experience with lending arrangements (regulated or non-regulated) and/or payments work; familiarity with the consumer credit and payments regulatory landscape (including the FCA regulatory perimeter) is highly desirable, even where the day-to-day work itself is non-regulated.
  • Prior fintech, payments or financial services in-house experience strongly preferred.
  • Comfortable operating with a high degree of autonomy in a fast-paced, highly technical and innovation-led environment.
  • A collaborative, approachable style - this is a friendly team and cultural fit matters as much as technical ability.
  • Available for a minimum of four days per week for the duration of the placement.
