Main Responsibilities
Corporation Tax
- Preparation of tax calculations (current and deferred tax) for inclusion in the group financial statements. Tax calculations for non-UK subsidiaries are prepared locally where relevant.
- Submission of UK corporation tax returns including group relief and group loss nomination forms for approximately 25-30 legal entities.
- Preparation of group tax forecasts for the Group Payment Arrangement (“GPA”) with HMRC.
- Preparation of group tax forecasts for inclusion in the budgeting and forecasting cycle.
- Liaise with external tax specialists on tax planning projects when opportunities arise.
- Dealing with HMRC enquiries into corporation tax returns.
- Supporting the various businesses on the group with corporation tax advice as required.
- Complete the year-end tax provisions for the annual group accounts and deal with the external auditor (Deloitte) queries.
R&D Tax
- With the use of the external R&D tax service provider, lead the annual R&D tax credit process by liaising with the IT team, and providing the required information to produce the R&D reports ready for submission with the UK corporation tax returns.

Transfer Pricing
- Manage the external tax advisers in preparing the transfer pricing documentation for the group (including the Master and Local file).
- Advise the group on the transfer pricing implications on a wide array of transactions.
VAT
- Review of quarterly VAT returns.
- Review of annual partial exemption calculation.
- Review of annual capital goods scheme calculation.
- Notification of HMRC when changes to VAT group / VAT partial exemption special method are needed.
- Liaison with external VAT consultants in respect of contentious issues / updating partial exemption special method where appropriate.
Employment Tax
- Advise HR on employee tax matters where necessary (PAYE and benefit in kind taxes).
- Preparation and submission of the annual PAYE Settlement Agreement (“PSA”) calculation.
Other
- M&A Tax: Advise the group on a wide array of transactions and structures, including acquisitions, disposals, and business transfers.
- Advise the business on all tax matters (excluding personal tax advice to employees).
- Work closely with other departments such as HR, Cosec, Compliance and Risk supporting them on tax issues as they arise.

Person Specification
- The role requires a person who has the following skills and experience:
- Minimum of 8+ years in tax within financial services (insurance experience would be desirable).
- International tax experience gained in practice/ or industry.
- Experience in leading tax in a multinational organisation.
- ACA, CTA, ACCA, CPA or equivalent qualification.
- Knowledge of tax disclosure requirements under IFRS and UK GAAP (FRS 102) is essential.
- Experience with Thomson Reuters’ “Onesource” corporation tax software would be desirable.
- VAT experience is essential, including knowledge of partial exemption schemes and familiarity with the insurance intermediary exemption.
- Knowledge of the controlled foreign company (CFC) rules.
- Knowledge of transfer pricing requirements.
- Knowledge of PAYE on expenses and benefits would be advantageous.
