Interim Tax Project Leader - London

2 days per week + hybrid working

We're partnering with a well-renowned organisation in its sector to recruit an experienced Interim Tax Project Leader for a 3-month fixed-term contract. This is an exciting opportunity for an accomplished tax professional to lead a high-profile project focused on strengthening international tax processes, governance, and compliance across a growing international operation.

This role is ideally suited to an experienced interim who enjoys delivering tangible outcomes within a fast-paced environment, working collaboratively across finance, legal, commercial, and external advisory teams.

The Role

As Interim Tax Project Leader, you'll take ownership of a range of strategic tax initiatives designed to improve the organisation's international tax framework and support continued overseas growth.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing and implementing robust processes for managing UK and international tax queries.
  • Developing country-specific tax risk frameworks to support commercial and finance teams when operating internationally.
  • Working alongside external tax advisers to establish standardised contractual tax clauses and documentation.
  • Reviewing international activities to assess and mitigate Permanent Establishment risk.
  • Leading improvements to VAT reporting processes, reducing risk and improving efficiency.
  • Streamlining HMRC certification and withholding tax reclaim processes.
  • Reviewing and updating the organisation's International Tax Manual, tax policies, and governance procedures.
  • Coordinating tax awareness training for finance, legal, and commercial stakeholders.
  • Producing analysis and recommendations on alternative financial models from a tax perspective.

About You

We're looking for a commercially minded tax professional who combines strong technical expertise with excellent stakeholder management skills.

You will ideally have:

  • ACA/ICAEW qualification with an audit background gained within a Big Four or Top 10 accountancy firm.
  • Extensive experience managing complex UK and international tax matters, including VAT.
  • A proven track record of delivering tax transformation or project-based assignments.
  • Strong knowledge of tax governance, risk management, and process improvement.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build relationships across all levels of an organisation.
  • The ability to work independently, prioritise effectively, and deliver results within tight timescales.
