Objective
You will take ownership of fleet compliance for the operations, ensuring the fleet meets the legal requirements for road transport. Your objective will be to complete a baseline compliance audits within the first month and agree an action plan from there. You will close out any high-risk gaps found in the audit, ensure the operator licences are kept in good standing and set up a clear compliance calendar and regular reporting.
Job role / duties
- Act as nominated Transport Manager and make sure operator licence undertakings are met.
- Notify the Traffic Commissioner of relevant changes as required.
- Keep up to date with changes in legislation and DVSA standards.
- Ensure a proper system of vehicle maintenance and safety inspections is in place, and that all vehicles are kept roadworthy.
- Make sure daily walkaround checks are done and defects are reported and fixed.
- Review any prohibitions, annual test failures or roadside encounters and prevent repeats.
- Inspect vehicles and reduce the risk of overloading.
- Make sure drivers hold the right licence entitlement and Driver CPC, and are trained and competent.
- Make sure drivers comply with drivers’ hours and working time rules, including tachograph analysis and follow-up.
- Make sure all required records are kept accurately and for the required period.
- Report regularly to leadership and support contract audits where needed.

To Be Considered For This Role
- Be experienced as a nominated Transport Manager on a UK operator licence.
- Have a good working knowledge of operator licensing, drivers’ hours, tachograph and roadworthiness rules.
- Possess experience auditing and improving fleet compliance.
- Be an exceptional verbal & written communicator.
- Ideally have managed contract fleets for more than one client.
- Have knowledge of transport methods, costs and vehicle engineering.
- Have good all round computer ability.
