Job Title: Intermediate Electrical Building Services Engineer
Location: Basingstoke, Hampshire
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Contract: Permanent | Full-time
Working pattern: Office-based, with travel to project sites
An established multidisciplinary engineering consultancy is seeking an Intermediate Electrical Building Services Engineer to join its Basingstoke team. This is an excellent opportunity for an electrical design engineer with at least three years’ experience to take greater ownership of projects and continue progressing towards senior or chartered status.
You will work across technically demanding sectors including rail, defence, nuclear, data centres, airports, ports, healthcare, and logistics. Supported by a Senior Electrical Engineer and experienced directors, you will take projects from initial survey and concept design through to detailed design and completion.
The Role
Your responsibilities will include:
- Producing electrical building services designs from inception through to completion.
- Designing systems including LV distribution, lighting, emergency lighting, small power, containment, and earthing.
- Producing drawings and coordinated design information using AutoCAD and Revit.
- Completing electrical design calculations using Amtech.
- Producing lighting calculations using Relux or Dialux.
- Preparing feasibility studies, technical reports, specifications, and equipment schedules.
- Undertaking site surveys and gathering information for new and existing installations.
- Attending client meetings and coordinating with multidisciplinary design teams.
- Supporting contract administration and project delivery activities.
- Reviewing work against relevant legislation, technical standards, and company procedures.
- Fulfilling Designer duties under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations.
- Providing guidance and mentoring to graduate and junior engineers.
- Maintaining accurate project documentation and supporting internal compliance audits.

About You
The successful candidate will have:
- At least three years’ electrical building services design experience.
- An HNC or HND in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
- A relevant engineering degree would be advantageous.
- Experience designing electrical systems within commercial, industrial, or infrastructure environments.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and experience using Revit.
- Experience completing calculations using Amtech.
- Working knowledge of Relux, Dialux, or comparable lighting design software.
- The ability to prepare professional technical specifications and schedules.
- A sound understanding of current electrical standards and CDM Regulations.
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to work directly with clients and project stakeholders.
- The ability to support and mentor less experienced engineers.
- Willingness to travel and occasionally work nights or weekends where required by rail projects

Experience within rail, defence, nuclear, data centres, or aviation would be particularly valuable. Knowledge of BIM requirements and project-delivery structures would also be advantageous. Candidates working towards Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status are encouraged to apply. Due to the nature of some projects, you must either hold a valid Personal Track Safety certificate or be willing to obtain one. Medical and drug and alcohol screening will apply when undertaking safety-critical rail work.
