The opportunity

About The Role

Our work ranges from landscape architecture and urban design, engineering and consenting for large residential and industrial developments to roads and wetlands, and the building of sophisticated flood models and planning for urban catchments and major transport infrastructure and urban housing.

Whether leading delivery or contributing specialist expertise, we work closely with iwi, partners, and stakeholders to achieve positive results for our clients, always with heart and excellence.

With exciting projects and opportunities ahead, we are seeking an exceptional Intermediate Landscape Architect to provide landscape architectural input into rivers, wetland, urban development and city making projects across New Zealand. Your skills will also complement our team of water specialists, environmental engineers, hydraulic modellers and scientists in implementing nature-based solutions as well as visualising these great collaborative outcomes. You will be proficient at communicating your ideas through a variety of media including visual and verbal presentation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Producing:
    • Innovative, environmentally sensitive design solutions for stream works, urban development and transport projects.
    • Producing design vision documents including renders and sketches to communicate design.
    • Preparing design documentation for consent.
    • Preparing implementation documents including planting plans, construction details and specifications.
    • Contributing to or preparing Landscape and Visual Impact Assessments and or urban design assessments.
    • Project management to help ensure projects are to scope, budget and schedule. A senior role would include full ownership of more complex projects.
    • Client management (regular communication, project updates).
    • Construction inspection and quality assurance.
    • Contribute to building Awa's capability and culture.

About you

Are you passionate about contributing to great spaces for people and communities to live, work and play in? Are you looking to work alongside other industry professionals to develop further our growing landscape and urban design practice as part of a boutique multi-disciplinary firm working across New Zealand? You will have an interest in nature-based design for shaping waterways and creating places as part of urban development and infrastructure projects, as well as helping to visualise these environments. What We’re Looking For

We welcome candidates with a track record in most or all the following:

  • An intermediate landscape architect with a minimum of 3 years of experience.
  • Experience in Vectorworks or AutoCAD.
  • Ideally experience in Enscape or Lumion.
  • InDesign and the full Adobe Suite.
  • Verbal and visual communication skills including conceptual sketching.
  • Excellent communication and report writing skills.
  • A genuine interest in Te Ao Māori.
  • A keen interest in the use of AI to improve design analysis and visual communication.
  • An adaptive and nimble mindset, able to work fluidly across offices & people.
  • Pragmatic and hands-on, focused on great outcomes.
  • An interest in company growth and business development.
