About the Team:
The Natural Capital Section at SRUC brings together leading expertise in education, research and knowledge exchange to address some of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time.
We deliver a diverse portfolio of tertiary education programmes spanning Further Education, Higher Education and postgraduate study, including conservation, environmental science and management, and forestry. Our teaching ranges from vocational conservation and forestry programmes through to undergraduate, MSc and PhD study, equipping learners with the skills and knowledge needed to shape a sustainable future.
Alongside our academic provision, we offer a growing portfolio of professional development courses, including peatland restoration training, the Forest and Outdoor Leadership Award, and forestry industry-focused programmes in areas such as drone operations and spatial mapping.
Supported by an active and expanding research community, our work focuses on peatland restoration and policy, freshwater systems, upland biodiversity, agroecology, agroforestry, and the social dimensions of environmental change.

The Opportunity:
This internship offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of Scotland's peatland restoration skills capacity. Working closely with SRUC staff, industry stakeholders and NatureScot partners, the successful candidate will support the design, development and enhancement of peatland restoration training materials and continuing professional development (CPD) provision.
The intern will play an active role in the ongoing development of SRUC's peatland CPD programmes while gaining practical experience in instructional design, adult learning principles, course development, curriculum planning and training delivery techniques.
A key project within the internship will involve investigating opportunities to widen access to peatland restoration knowledge and skills for undergraduate students studying agriculture and forestry. This will include undertaking a training needs analysis and supporting the early-stage design of short courses, learning resources and lecture materials that can be embedded within existing SRUC programmes.

Minimum Qualifications:
The minimum qualification for this role is a HND at SCQF Level 8 in a relevant discipline, such as Environmental Science, Ecology, Conservation, Forestry, Agriculture, Education, or Land Management. We also welcome applications from individuals who are currently studying towards a relevant degree or who have recently completed their studies.
