Salary: £45,050.98 per annum. A £4775.00 London Allowance will also be payable to London-based candidates
Contract Type: Temporary, fixed term contract until 31st March 2028
Location: Can be based in any of our main hubs – London, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Cardiff or Glasgow
Type of Working Arrangement: Blended approach of home and office-working is available
Hours: This is a full-time role (37 hours per week)

The Opportunity
Are you looking for your next exciting career move? British Transport Police have an excellent opportunity for an Internal Communications Manager to join the Communications and Engagement department. As an Internal Communications Manager with BTP, you will play a vital role in delivering improved employee awareness and understanding of the connection between their roles and our vision and values and to influence the organisational behaviours and culture to help us deliver that vision. The Internal Communications Manager will provide a first-class internal communications service, always looking for innovative ways to reach out to our internal audience and keep up to date with industry trends.
What You'll Be Doing
- Act as an advisor to functions and teams in how to get the most out of their audience, acting as the subject matter expert in communicating with an internal audience.
- Partner with Communications and Engagement colleagues to deliver aligned and consistent communications, across internal, external, stakeholders and divisions, building relationships and insight into our organisation.
- Develop strategies to maintain and increase the adoption and use of Viva Engage as our main two-way internal communications tool, working with leaders to understand the value of engagement on this channel.
- Lead on internal communications for Wellbeing, Health and Safety, Diversity and Inclusion, Technology, Information Management and more.
- Analyse and evaluate data and colleague insight to inform communication strategies, measure effectiveness and drive continuous improvement.
- Represent the department at cross-functional meetings and external forums where needed, sharing best practice and influencing organisational strategy.
What You'll Bring To The Team
- Significant experience working in a similar role within an internal communications function.
- Demonstrable experience of contributing to internal communications campaigns, with a focus on the planning, execution and measurement.
- Proven experience of effectively using a multi-media approach to target and engage with different audiences.
- Understanding of technology tools that support internal communications, such as Sharepoint and Viva Engage.
- Knowledge of internal communications in response to crisis scenarios.
- An effective, innovative and creative communicator. The ability to translate complex information into simple, engaging and human centred language and produce written content for an internal audience to an extremely high standard.
- Excellent influencing and negotiating skills, helping people understand the value of internal communications.
- Ability and confidence to make decisions and provide advice to stakeholders within the context of the whole organisation and the external environment.
- Ability to work in a busy and high-pressure environment and to tight deadlines - managing multiple projects and stakeholders with the ability to prioritise.
- Fluency in Welsh language, written and verbal is desirable (if based in Cardiff)
