RISK & INTERNAL CONTROLS MANAGER

Central London | Hybrid
£80,000 – £100,000 + Bonus + Benefits

A leading listed business is looking to appoint a Risk & Internal Controls Manager. This is a broad and highly visible role, working across the organisation to strengthen the risk and internal controls environment and support the continued development of its governance framework.

Working closely with senior finance and operational stakeholders, you will take responsibility for identifying and assessing key risks, ensuring appropriate controls are designed and operating effectively, and driving improvements across the control environment.

The role offers considerable exposure across the business and would suit someone who combines strong technical knowledge of risk and controls with the communication skills, commercial judgement and flexibility to support a range of wider projects and ad hoc initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting the development and implementation of the Group's risk and internal controls framework.
  • Identifying key financial, operational and compliance risks and ensuring appropriate controls are in place.
  • Undertaking risk assessments and maintaining risk and controls documentation.
  • Assessing control design and effectiveness, identifying weaknesses and supporting remediation.
  • Supporting internal controls over financial reporting and evolving UK corporate governance requirements.
  • Working with IT and third parties on IT general controls.
  • Coordinating with internal and external audit and supporting risk reporting to senior management and the Board.
  • Supporting systems, process improvement, transformation and other ad hoc projects, ensuring appropriate risks and controls are considered as the business evolves.
  • Helping embed a strong risk and controls culture across the organisation.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Requirements

The successful candidate will have a strong background in internal controls, risk or internal audit, gained within a large or complex organisation or professional services environment. Ideally you will be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or equivalent) and demonstrate strong relevant experience. You will have a good understanding of internal controls and risk management frameworks, with experience documenting and assessing processes, risks and controls, identifying weaknesses and implementing practical remediation. Exposure to internal controls over financial reporting, COSO, SOX, UK corporate governance requirements or IT general controls would be advantageous.

You will also need strong analytical and communication skills, the confidence to work with and constructively challenge senior stakeholders, and a proactive, pragmatic approach. Importantly, you should be comfortable operating beyond a defined BAU remit, getting involved in systems, transformation, process improvement and other ad hoc projects, and be able to adapt quickly as priorities change.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-known listed business in a role offering significant exposure across the organisation, with the opportunity to play an important part in the continued development of its risk, governance and internal controls environment.
