Internal Sales

Location: Office-based, Birmingham
Salary: £28K - £30K + 25% OTE

Primary Purpose

To grow sales and profit from an assigned portfolio, primarily consisting of C and D accounts, through proactive and regular customer contact. The role will focus on developing existing accounts, reactivating lapsed customers and generating new sales opportunities. Telephone contact will be the primary method of communication, supported by email and other appropriate channels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and grow an assigned portfolio, primarily consisting of C and D accounts, to achieve agreed sales, profit and activity targets.
  • Proactively contact customers by telephone to understand their requirements, identify opportunities and increase engagement.
  • Review customer and sales data to identify opportunities for account growth, cross-selling and repeat business.
  • Reactivate inactive customers through structured outbound calling and follow-up activity.
  • Research and contact prospective customers to generate and qualify new business opportunities.
  • Qualify inbound and outbound leads, handling opportunities directly where appropriate or passing them to the relevant member of the Sales Team.
  • Arrange qualified customer appointments for the field-based Sales Executives.
  • Prepare and follow up quotations in line with company processes.
  • Review tender notifications, assess their relevance and forward suitable opportunities to UK Head of Sales.
  • Maintain accurate and timely CRM records of customer interactions, opportunities and quotations.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider Sales, Marketing and Customer Service Teams to support customers and achieve company objectives.

Skills, Experience and Personal Attributes

  • Degree in a life sciences discipline is essential.
  • Confident and comfortable communicating with customers by telephone, as this will be the primary communication method.
  • Proactive, enthusiastic and commercially minded.
  • Strong communication skills, with the confidence to initiate conversations, ask effective questions and build customer relationships.
  • Comfortable working towards sales targets, KPIs and agreed activity levels.
  • Well organised, with the ability to manage multiple customers, opportunities and follow-up actions.
  • Accurate and disciplined when maintaining CRM records completing administrative tasks.
  • Previous experience in sales or telesales would be advantageous.
  • Experience within laboratories, academia, biotechnology or other life science organisations would be beneficial.
  • Positive, professional, coachable and willing to learn.
