Role Purpose

To lead, coach, and support an office-based internal sales team, strengthening customer relationships and delivering sustainable growth through proactive outbound calling and high-quality inbound sales support. The role builds capability, accountability, and consistently strong commercial performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the internal sales team to achieve revenue, margin, retention, conversion, and service KPIs.
  • Recruit, onboard, and support team members, building product knowledge, selling confidence, and customer skills.
  • Deliver one-to-ones, call listening, coaching, and reviews, with clear development or improvement plans.
  • Create an accountable, collaborative culture that shares best practice and recognises team success.
  • Use order, account, call, and conversion data to focus team activity on sustainable customer growth.
  • Drive purposeful outbound calling to existing, lapsed, and prospective customers to grow repeat business.
  • Champion relationship-led selling, coach telephone skills, and handle complex customer escalations.
  • Ensure inbound calls are handled efficiently, customer needs are understood, and opportunities are followed up.
  • Lead launches and campaigns while maintaining accurate CRM, pipeline, forecast, and performance records.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Proven experience leading, coaching, or supervising an internal sales, telesales, or customer-development team.
  • Strong people management across recruitment, onboarding, coaching, reviews, and improvement planning.
  • Delivery of sales, margin, conversion, retention, and activity targets in a telephone-based environment.
  • Excellent relationship-led selling and service skills, including complex customer conversations.
  • Commercial and analytical capability across order trends, call activity, conversion, and pipeline data.
  • Strong product-led selling skills and ability to coach accurate brand and promotional communication.
  • Clear communication, organisation, and CRM discipline, with a resilient and accountable leadership style.

Desirable

  • FMCG, food, wholesale, independent-retail, or branded-consumer-goods experience.
  • Experience with CRM, call-recording, dialler, sales-reporting, or contact-centre quality tools.
  • Experience leading reactivation, targeted call campaigns, product launches, or promotions.
