International Affairs Associate Director
Russia, FSU & Central/Eastern Europe
Opportunity for an experienced strategic advisory professional with deep knowledge of Russia, the former Soviet Union and/or Central and Eastern Europe. The role will focus on geopolitical, political and commercial analysis, helping senior business leaders and investors understand complex markets, assess risk and opportunity, and make informed strategic decisions across the region and internationally.
The Role
- Lead strategic intelligence and advisory assignments focused on Russia, the FSU, Central and Eastern Europe and wider international markets.
- Analyse geopolitical, political, economic and commercial developments and assess their implications for businesses, investors and other international organisations.
- Conduct research and analysis into countries, governments, companies, industries, individuals and commercial relationships.
- Assess political, regulatory, reputational and market risks relevant to investment, market-entry and broader strategic decisions.
- Analyse political and economic trends, government priorities, policy developments, sanctions and changing regional and international dynamics.
- Map key stakeholders, decision makers, political relationships and networks of influence across government, business and wider society.
- Develop and manage human-source networks to provide insight beyond publicly available information and test analytical assumptions.
- Conduct discreet source-led enquiries across multiple jurisdictions.
- Combine open-source research, human intelligence and broader contextual analysis to develop clear assessments of complex or uncertain situations.
- Produce concise, commercially relevant intelligence and analysis for senior business leaders, investors and other decision makers.
- Present analysis, assessments and recommendations directly to clients through written briefings, calls and meetings.
- Manage projects and provide guidance and oversight to more junior team members.
- Work across multiple countries, sectors and geopolitical issues simultaneously.
- Operate with considerable autonomy while managing competing priorities and deadlines.

Requirements
- 6–10 years’ experience in strategic intelligence, geopolitical risk, international affairs, political risk, government, diplomacy, policy, strategy consulting, corporate strategy, investment research or related fields.
- Deep understanding of Russia, the FSU and/or Central and Eastern Europe, including the interaction between politics, economics, business and international affairs.
- Ability to connect geopolitical and political developments with their commercial and strategic implications.
- Strong analytical mindset with intellectual curiosity, judgement and an ability to develop insight from incomplete or conflicting information.
- Ability to rapidly understand unfamiliar countries, sectors and strategic issues.
- Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to turn complex information into clear and concise assessments.
- Comfortable presenting analysis and advising senior stakeholders.
- Experience managing projects and mentoring or supervising junior colleagues.
- High emotional intelligence and sound judgement, particularly when dealing with sensitive political and commercial issues.
- Entrepreneurial, intellectually curious and self-directed approach to problem solving.
- Strong academic background preferred, particularly in international relations, politics, economics, regional studies, security studies or related disciplines.
- Russian or another relevant regional language would be advantageous.
