International Arbitration Managing Associate | 5–6 PQE | London

The Firm

We are instructed by a highly regarded international law firm to appoint a Senior level lawyer to join its growing International Arbitration practice in London.

The firm has an established reputation for handling complex, high-value and cross-border disputes, advising an international client base across a broad range of industries and jurisdictions.

Its disputes practice operates internationally, with lawyers regularly working across borders and alongside local counsel, experts and other professional advisers. The firm combines strong technical expertise with a commercial and entrepreneurial approach to client service.

The International Arbitration Team

The International Arbitration team acts for clients across a broad range of commercial and investment disputes, working under a variety of institutional and ad hoc arbitration rules.

The practice handles matters involving multiple jurisdictions and governing laws, with particular strength in complex disputes arising from international business relationships and investments.

The team's sector experience includes areas such as:

  • Energy and natural resources
  • Construction and infrastructure
  • Finance
  • Telecommunications and technology
  • Shipping
  • Real estate
  • Life sciences

The team also has significant experience in arbitration-related court proceedings, including interim relief, injunctions, evidence and disclosure applications and the recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards.

The Role

This is an excellent opportunity for a 4–7 PQE International Arbitration lawyer to work closely with Partners and more junior members of the team. You will play a significant role in the management of complex international arbitration matters while also helping to develop the wider practice.

You will be expected to:

  • Manage client matters and take responsibility for significant aspects of complex arbitrations
  • Run matters or substantial workstreams with limited Partner supervision
  • Draft pleadings, submissions, witness statements, expert materials and other arbitration documentation
  • Assist with hearings and, where appropriate, undertake oral advocacy before arbitral tribunals
  • Manage procedural and case-management issues throughout the life of a dispute
  • Work with clients, counsel, experts and local lawyers across multiple jurisdictions
  • Assist with arbitration-related court proceedings, including interim applications and enforcement
  • Identify and develop opportunities for additional work with existing and prospective clients
  • Contribute to business development and the growth of the practice

The Candidate

We are looking for an ambitious and commercially minded arbitration lawyer with a strong technical foundation and genuine enthusiasm for international disputes.

You will ideally have:

  • Qualification as a solicitor in England & Wales
  • Strong experience in international arbitration gained within a recognised disputes practice
  • Experience managing complex arbitration matters with limited Partner supervision
  • Experience across a range of sectors and/or jurisdictions
  • Strong drafting and case-management skills
  • Experience working with international clients, counsel, experts and local advisers
  • Experience of oral advocacy before an arbitral tribunal would be advantageous
  • Experience of arbitration-related High Court proceedings would be beneficial
  • Excellent commercial judgement and the ability to understand the client's wider objectives
  • Strong client-facing and relationship-building skills
  • Experience supervising and mentoring junior lawyers

Salary & Benefits

A competitive salary and benefits package is available, reflecting the experience and seniority of the successful candidate. For this level it will be upwards of £140,000.
