Role Overview

We have an excellent opportunity for an International Casualty Claims Manager to join the FDY Claims team and take responsibility for a diverse portfolio of international casualty claims written through the Lloyd’s and London Market.

The successful candidate will provide technical leadership across the international casualty claims portfolio, ensuring consistent, commercially sound and customer-focused claims outcomes while protecting the Syndicate’s financial and reputational interests.

The role encompasses responsibility for casualty business across a broad range of industry sectors, including General Liability, Mining, Transportation, Manufacturing, Municipal Liability, Construction, Sports & Leisure, and Hospitality.

The role requires extensive international casualty claims experience, with particular expertise in Canada and Australia, together with strong knowledge of policy coverage, litigation management, delegated claims authority arrangements, reserving practices and complex stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities

Claims Management and Technical Oversight

  • Manage a portfolio of complex and high-value international casualty claims from first notification through to final resolution.
  • Provide technical leadership and oversight to the International Casualty Claims team, ensuring claims are handled in accordance with Syndicate guidelines, Lloyd's requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Oversee the investigation, evaluation, reserving, negotiation, and settlement of claims across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Conduct detailed policy coverage analysis and provide guidance on complex liability and coverage issues.
  • Escalate significant, large-loss, contentious, or sensitive claims to the Head of Claims, providing clear recommendations and action plans.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reserving practices, maintaining financial discipline and transparency throughout the lifecycle of claims.

Delegated Authority Oversight

  • Manage and oversee the performance of Coverholders, DCAs and other delegated claims service providers.
  • Monitor delegated authority arrangements to ensure compliance with claims handling authorities, service standards, and reporting requirements.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to enhance claims processes, governance, and operational effectiveness.

Litigation & External Stakeholder Management

  • Lead the management of litigated claims, working closely with external counsel and other professional advisors.
  • Drive effective litigation strategies aligned with the Syndicate's claims philosophy and commercial objectives.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with Brokers, Insureds, Adjusters, Legal Representatives, and Reinsurers.
  • Represent the Syndicate in market meetings, mediation proceedings, settlement negotiations, and industry forums where required.

Portfolio Management & Underwriting Support

  • Analyse claims experience and emerging trends to identify key loss drivers and underwriting opportunities.
  • Provide claims insights and portfolio analysis to Underwriters, Actuaries, and senior management to support business planning and profitability objectives.
  • Attend client meetings to provide claims expertise and strengthen broker and client relationships.
  • Work collaboratively with the Wordings team to identify policy wording issues, emerging coverage concerns, and opportunities for product improvement.

Reporting & Governance

  • Prepare and present claims management information, trend analysis, and performance reports for senior management and relevant committees.
  • Support internal and external audit activities as required.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory, legal, Lloyd's, and company governance requirements.
  • Contribute to strategic claims initiatives, process improvement projects, and departmental objectives.

Key Relationships

As a key member of the Claims function the International Casualty Claims Manager will work closely with Underwriters, Actuaries, Brokers, Coverholders, Delegated Claims Administrators (DCAs), Reinsurers, and external legal counsel to drive effective claims management, support underwriting performance, and deliver valuable portfolio insights.

Skills & Experience

  • Significant international casualty claims experience within the Lloyd's and/or London Market
  • Demonstrable expertise handling complex liability claims across multiple jurisdictions, particularly Canada and Australia.
  • Strong technical knowledge of casualty insurance coverage, litigation management, and liability exposures.
  • Experience overseeing delegated authority claims arrangements, including Coverholders, and DCAs.
  • Proven ability to manage large-loss, complex, and contentious claims.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to build credibility across underwriting, broking, legal, and client communities.
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Experience managing or mentoring claims professionals.
