Job Purpose Reporting to the Managing Director, International for events and international business growth, this role will work closely with a small international team and the Business Development Manager (International Events) and will be responsible for strategic event planning, building business cases and budget, generating sales leads, selling exhibitor and visitor packages, selling sponsorship, presentation and surgical simulation opportunities and helping to deliver our International events.

The role holder will work on ABHI’s portfolio of existing international events and develop new opportunities for new events and exhibitions and manage them from inception to delivery, allowing the role holder to really get to know ABHI’s client base.

This role offers a vast amount of variety with sales, budget management, social media promotion, presentation programmes, event publications, website content, sourcing and managing contractors, event marketing and stakeholder communications.

ABHI offer a range of international exhibitions in a variety of geographies and operate both on a direct support and commission only basis depending on the size of the demand for the show.

Core accountabilities / responsibilities Business Development, Sales and Marketing

  • Own and drive the performance of ABHI’s annual international events and exhibitions portfolio.
  • Work closely with the team to own and lead on sales targets and strategy and create opportunities to grow the event portfolio and deliver client contract expectations.
  • Support cross-selling, lead generation and retention for ABHI’s US Accelerator programme and ABHI membership.
  • Generate leads and repeat business for ABHI’s international exhibitions and the virtual UK Healthcare Pavilion.
  • Maintain regular contact with clients through key account management, with the aim of encouraging a high level of rebookings.
  • Liaise with the Managing Director, International, to ensure client suitability.
  • In collaboration with the Managing Director, International, hold client debriefs to understand future requirements and identify opportunities for new events.
  • Monitor and regularly review other large-scale conferences and exhibitions to ensure ABHI’s offer remains attractive, creative and relevant for exhibitors and attendees.
  • Represent ABHI at trade shows and with industry stakeholders.
  • Research and suggest new international activities and markets and undertake member surveys on trade-related issues.
  • Conduct industry research on behalf of the team, collecting and analysing responses.

Event and Exhibition Delivery

  • Undertake end-to-end event portfolio project management, including operational planning, event execution, marketing, communications and financial administration.
  • Source appropriate locations, appoint and manage contractors, and oversee on-site services for exhibitors.
  • Manage all areas of event delivery, including space allocation, construction, exhibition delivery and breakdown.
  • Own and develop effective relationships with Informa (our events partner) and other key stakeholders; including suppliers, venues, speakers, clients, government departments, devolved administrations, industry bodies, regional civic organisations and health related network organisations.
  • Work with the Director of Communications to support communications activity, including newsletter articles, promotional mailers, social media content, website updates and database maintenance.
  • Provide in-person, on-site coordination of all contract and revenue commitments.

Risk Management

  • Identify and mitigate commercial, financial and operational risks, including advance space commitments, contractor and delivery risks, and supplier dependencies.
  • Prepare appropriate contractual, financial, and health and safety contingency plans for each show.
  • Escalate material risks to the Managing Director, International, in a timely manner.

Financial Targets and Delivery

  • Develop business plans and manage budgets to deliver agreed sales and profitability targets.
  • Negotiate with customers and suppliers to maximise profitability, agreeing commercial terms and appropriate payment terms.
  • Support the accounts team to follow up payments when requested.
  • Monitor and analyse KPIs to ensure events remain on track.
  • Manage client contracts and debt processes for sales generated, ensuring sales targets are met and contracts are fulfilled.
  • Provide regular financial and sales activity reports to the senior management team.
  • Contribute to budgeting and forecasting, factoring in foreign exchange exposure.
  • Provide regular updates and reporting to the CFO, Managing Director, International, and wider team on annual budgets, long-term financial planning and business planning.

Operational Working Requirements

  • Be able to spend several days away from home, approximately four to six times per year, to deliver a strong exhibitor experience at ABHI’s international exhibitions, including locations such as Dubai, Saudi Arabia, USA and South Africa.
  • Live within easy commuting distance of London airports.

Line Management responsibilities None

Budgetary Responsibilities

  • Responsible for revenue generation and set pricing ensuring full-profitability and budget ownership.
  • Work with the Managing Director to own forecasting and planning processes.
  • Delivering events in line with sales targets and budget.
  • Working with colleagues, in the achievement of team figures by cross selling either ABHI membership or Accelerator participation.

Qualifications, Experience and Person Spec Essential

  • Demonstrable experience of managing events from initial planning through to in-person delivery and post evaluation.
  • Previous experience in B2B consultative event sales, commercial exhibitions, conferences and marketing.
  • Ability to manage ambiguity and interpret information to make sound commercial decisions, develop business plans and set realistic targets.
  • Strong time-management capabilities with the ability to meet targets, deadlines and deliverables.
  • Strong ability to work under pressure, prioritise workload with good organisation and administration skills.
  • Confident and comfortable attending international events in new locations sometimes independently.
  • Proactive with the ability to develop new and creative ideas to support revenue targets.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with solid negotiating and influencing skills.
  • Team player who is able to self-motivate and self-manage and have a proactive hands-on approach to work.
  • Ability to travel and work in different international cultures.

Desirable

  • Events experience gained within HealthTech, Healthcare and Life Sciences would be a distinct advantage.
  • An understanding of how Associations or Membership Organisations operate, with the ability to adapt a consultative approach to clients.
