Role Overview
Drive how AI is adopted and governed across the enterprise. This role combines strategic oversight with transformation leadership to enable innovation while maintaining strong controls. Partner with senior stakeholders to align governance practices with evolving business and regulatory priorities.
As an AI Governance Director in the International Private Bank (IPB), you will lead the development and implementation of comprehensive AI governance frameworks that ensure the ethical, responsible, and compliant use of AI technologies across the organization. You will leverage your expertise in model risk management and regulatory compliance to influence strategic decisions and operational plans, ensuring alignment with both business objectives and regulatory standards. Your role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to address complex challenges, such as bias detection and explainability in AI models, while fostering a culture of transparency and accountability. By driving innovation and safeguarding our reputation, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of AI at JPMorganChase.
The IPB AI Governance Lead owns end-to-end governance for the IPB AI portfolio—ensuring AI initiatives are compliant, auditable, and scalable across multiple jurisdictions. This role partners closely with advisors, product/tech teams, risk/control functions, and regional stakeholders to embed governance into delivery while enabling responsible innovation.
Job Responsibilities
- Develop and enforce AI governance frameworks and policies to ensure compliance with evolving regulatory standards and internal guidelines
- Lead the identification and mitigation of risks associated with AI/ML models, ensuring robust model risk management throughout their lifecycle
- Oversee the validation and monitoring of AI/ML models to ensure accuracy, fairness, and compliance, utilizing advanced techniques for explainability and bias mitigation
- Drive strategic initiatives to integrate AI governance tools and automate compliance processes, leveraging cloud infrastructure and API integration
- Collaborate with senior leadership to align AI governance strategies with business objectives, influencing decision-making and operational plans
- Respond to regulatory inquiries and surveys with consistent, evidence-backed submissions
- Drive updates to the AI governance framework and operating model to keep pace with the evolving global regulatory landscape
- Maintain a complete view of the IPB AI portfolio and drive consistent governance, regulatory impact, and change management for AI initiatives
- Lead responses to regulatory inquiries, surveys, and questionnaires, coordinating inputs across business, technology, Legal, Compliance, and control functions
- Shape governance requirements as capabilities change (e.g., agentic systems, MCP requirements, new model hosting and tool-access patterns)
- Participate in regulatory impact assessments for new rules and guidance in partnership with Legal and Compliance, including implications to controls, documentation, and operating processes

Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills
- Possess a master's degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Data Science, or a related discipline
- Proven experience in one or more: AI/Model Governance, Operational Risk, Compliance, Legal/Reg advisory, Technology Risk, Controls, or regulated product governance
- Understanding of AI/GenAI delivery lifecycle (use case intake, model selection, testing/validation, monitoring, change management)
- Deep understanding of AI build, strong technical knowledge particularly related to agentic capabilities, and data science expertise
- Proven experience leading cross-functional regulatory responses (inquiries, questionnaires, inventories, evidence production)
- Experience operating across multiple jurisdictions and translating regulatory expectations into practical controls
- Expertise in AI governance, focusing on developing and implementing governance frameworks and policies
- Demonstrate advanced proficiency in model risk management, including the ability to identify, assess, and mitigate risks throughout the AI/ML model lifecycle
- Exhibit expert-level skills in ensuring AI/ML model compliance with regulatory standards, utilizing techniques for explainability and bias mitigation
- Showcase advanced experience in deploying and managing AI/ML models on cloud platforms, with a strong understanding of API integration and automation processes
Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills
- Familiarity with AI governance frameworks (NIST AI RMF, ISO/IEC 23894) and common control patterns (model inventory, monitoring, documentation standards)
- Experience with advisory/channel businesses and/or hyperpersonalization/customer-facing decisioning
- Experience building governance operating models (cadences, templates, RACI, intake workflows)
- Executive-ready communication: concise, defensible narratives for senior management and regulators
- Strong program management: drives timelines, accountability, and closure across many teams
- Balances risk and speed: embeds governance without becoming a bottleneck
- High judgment and independence; comfortable escalating issues and making recommendations
