Portico Designs is an independent publisher of design-led gifts, established over 30 years ago and based in Bath, UK. The company creates and distributes products featuring internationally recognized licensed brands as well as its own in-house designs. Portico Designs works closely with retailers to provide bespoke development for own-brand and exclusive ranges, alongside supplying general trade lines to independent retailers. The business is built on long-standing partnerships with retail clients, licensing partners, and suppliers. Portico Designs is committed to high-quality products sourced from sustainable, ethically and responsibly managed supply chains.

Role Description

The International Sales Manager will oversee and grow Portico Designs’ sales across international markets (excluding North America, Canada), with a focus on strengthening and building relationships with distributors, key accounts, and retail partners. This full-time, hybrid role is based in Bath, UK with a mix of on-site collaboration and work-from-home flexibility. Day-to-day responsibilities include identifying new market opportunities, managing sales pipelines, preparing and delivering proposals, and negotiating terms with international customers. The role involves coordinating with internal teams on pricing, product range selections, and promotional activities, while tracking performance against sales targets and reporting market insights to leadership. The International Sales Manager will also represent Portico Designs at relevant trade events and support the development of bespoke and exclusive ranges for international partners.

Key Responsibilities

International Sales & Account Management

  • Manage and develop relationships with distributors, agents, and key export customers.
  • Support sales across existing international markets and identify opportunities in assigned territories.
  • Present new products and seasonal ranges to customers.
  • Prepare quotations, proposals, and commercial offers in line with company guidelines.
  • Negotiate day-to-day commercial terms within agreed parameters.
  • Maintain regular contact with customers to ensure a high level of service and satisfaction.

Business Development

  • Identify prospective customers and distributors within agreed target markets.
  • Support the onboarding of new customers and distribution partners.
  • Represent the company at selected international trade shows and customer meetings.
  • Maintain an active pipeline of sales opportunities.

Sales Administration & Forecasting

  • Prepare sales forecasts and customer reports.
  • Maintain accurate customer records, opportunities, and forecasts.
  • Monitor sales performance against agreed targets and report on progress.
  • Work with the Sales Director to support annual sales planning.

Export & Operational Support

  • Liaise with Customer Service, Logistics, and Finance to ensure orders are delivered on time.
  • Assist customers with export documentation, shipping arrangements, and order queries.
  • Resolve customer issues promptly and maintain effective communication.

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with Sales, Marketing, and Product Development to support product launches.
  • Share customer feedback and market insights to help identify future opportunities.
  • Support the delivery of the company's international sales objectives.

Person Specification

Essential Experience

  • 3–5 years' experience in international sales, export sales, or account management.
  • Experience working with distributors, agents, or international customers.
  • Proven ability to achieve sales targets and build strong customer relationships.
  • Good commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
  • Experience using CRM systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Willingness to undertake occasional international travel.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience within giftware, publishing, stationery, homeware, or other consumer products.
  • Knowledge of export procedures and international logistics.
  • Additional language skills.

  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills.
  • Well organized with good planning and time management.
  • Commercially aware with a customer-focused approach.
  • Confident presenting products and negotiating with customers.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and results-focused.

Reports to: Sales Director
Key Internal Contacts: Sales, Marketing, Customer Service, Product Development, Finance, and Logistics.
Key External Contacts: International distributors, retailers, agents, and customers.
