A growing multi-site retail business is looking for an experienced Inventory Accountant to join its Head Office team in Plymouth.

This is an analytical and commercially focused role, sitting at the interface between finance, inventory, supply chain and decision-making. The successful candidate will go beyond monitoring and reporting inventory levels, providing detailed analysis of stock levels, ageing, trends and discrepancies and translating this insight into actionable recommendations.

The role will play an important part in improving purchasing efficiency, strengthening inventory controls and maximising profitability across the business.

About the Role

As Inventory Accountant, you will be responsible for providing accurate, insightful analysis of inventory performance while ensuring strong financial controls and governance.

You will work closely with purchasing, merchandising, supply chain, stores and distribution centres, using data to identify risks and opportunities and support informed commercial decisions.

Key Responsibilities

Analysis & Insight

  • Produce detailed analysis of inventory KPIs, including stock levels, ageing and trends, with clear commentary and recommendations to support management decision-making.
  • Analyse complex inventory data to identify trends, risks and opportunities, translating findings into actionable insight for purchasing, merchandising and senior stakeholders.
  • Investigate and identify the root causes of inventory discrepancies, quantify their financial impact and recommend corrective action to minimise stock losses across sites and distribution centres.
  • Develop forecasting and trend models to anticipate potential inventory issues and support future purchasing decisions.
  • Present financial and inventory insights to non-finance stakeholders through clear, concise and data-driven communication.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
