South Staffordshire Water, which operates across two regions as Cambridge Water and South Staffs Water is a privately-owned regulated water only company.
South Staffs Water supplies a population of nearly 1.3 million. The area of supply stretches from the edge of Ashbourne in the north, to Halesowen in the south, and from Burton on Trent in the east, to Kinver in the west.
The Role
As an Inventory Assistant, you'll play a key role in maintaining accurate inventory records, supporting stock control activities and helping to ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of our inventory function.
Working closely with operational teams, suppliers, Procurement and colleagues across the wider business, you'll support the management of inventory across our sites while ensuring high standards of accuracy and service.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive, check and record stock deliveries.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and stock traceability.
- Monitor stock levels and support replenishment activities.
- Raise purchase requisitions and support purchasing processes.
- Assist with stock takes, cycle counts and inventory audits.
- Investigate and resolve stock discrepancies.
- Liaise with suppliers regarding deliveries and stock queries.
- Support the Inventory and Procurement teams with administrative activities.
- Ensure inventory data is maintained accurately within business systems.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across inventory processes.

What Success Looks Like
In this role, you will:
- Maintain accurate and reliable inventory records.
- Ensure stock movements are recorded promptly and correctly.
- Support the efficient replenishment of critical operational materials.
- Help deliver successful stock takes and audit outcomes.
- Build effective relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Contribute to a well-organised, compliant and customer-focused inventory operation.
Essential
About You:
- Experience within a stores, warehouse, stock control or inventory environment.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and work to a high level of accuracy.
- Good IT skills and confidence using inventory or stock management systems.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with both operational and office-based colleagues.
- Ability to work independently whilst contributing positively to a wider team.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
- Experience using inventory management systems such as IBM Maximo or Oracle.
- Experience supporting stock counts, audits and inventory reconciliations.
- Knowledge of procurement or purchasing processes.
