Job Title
The role will be responsible for the end-to-end control, coordination and visibility of materials across the manufacturing process, from raw steel through production and galvanising, ensuring materials are available, accurately recorded and effectively managed at every stage.
This includes managing raw material requirements and call-offs in line with production schedules, monitoring stock levels, coordinating incoming deliveries and storage capacity, and maintaining accurate material records within STRUMIS. You will track and coordinate material throughout the full production lifecycle, providing visibility of material from raw steel receipt and storage, allocation to projects, issue into production, through fabrication and onward movement to galvanising, including the coordination and tracking of material sent to and returned from galvanising suppliers.
Working closely with Production, Planning, Procurement, Projects and external galvanising suppliers, the role will ensure material movements are aligned with production and project requirements, potential shortages or delays are identified early, and accurate information is available to support operational decision-making.
The role will also support effective stock management, reconciliation and capacity planning, helping Had-Fab to reduce excess stock, minimise waste, prevent production delays and improve the overall flow of material from raw steel through to the finished product.
Key Responsibilities
Raw Material Inventory & Stock Control
- Maintain accurate STRUMIS records of raw steel stock, including quantities, grades, sections, lengths and storage locations.
- Ensure physical stock reconciles with STRUMIS records; investigate and report any discrepancies.
- Correctly allocate material between general stock and project-specific stock.
- Coordinate regular stock checks and cycle counts, and identify slow-moving, excess or obsolete material.
Material Receipt & Storage
- Coordinate receipt of incoming steel and controlled raw materials, checking deliveries against orders, call-offs and delivery notes.
- Receive material accurately into STRUMIS, applying or verifying barcode identification and recording storage locations.
- Maintain a clear storage plan, allocating locations by material type, project and expected usage, and monitor storage utilisation.
- Report shortages, damaged or incorrect deliveries, and liaise with Procurement on supplier discrepancies.
Procurement Liaison & Material Call-Off
- Liaise closely with Procurement regarding steel orders, outstanding requirements and material call-offs.
- Use STRUMIS to confirm stock availability before additional material is called off.
- Maintain visibility of material ordered, called off, delivered and outstanding, and communicate priority changes to Procurement.
- Highlight potential shortages, late deliveries or supplier issues to the Production Office Manager.

Delivery Volume & Storage Capacity Planning
- Review planned incoming material volumes and coordinate delivery quantities against available yard and storage capacity.
- Maintain a forward view of expected deliveries and phase deliveries with Procurement to avoid congestion.
- Monitor raw-material and finished-product storage capacity and escalate conflicts to the Production Office Manager.
Barcode & STRUMIS Inventory Control
- Ensure raw materials and finished products are correctly recorded and barcoded in STRUMIS, using scanning to track and confirm stock.
- Complete the corresponding barcode scan or STRUMIS transaction for every physical stock movement, receipt, transfer or dispatch.
- Maintain barcode integrity, replace damaged labels, and investigate unidentified or unscanned material.
- Support stock reconciliation and audits by investigating differences between STRUMIS records and physical stock.
Galvanised Finished Product Control
- Coordinate receipt of finished steelwork returned from galvanisers, checking quantities against documentation and project/mark identification.
- Record and barcode finished products accurately in STRUMIS, allocating them to the correct storage location.
- Report missing, damaged or incorrectly returned items to the appropriate Project, Production or Quality personnel.
- Maintain accurate finished-product inventory records and ensure these agree with STRUMIS.
Client Dispatch Coordination
- Coordinate galvanised finished product through to client dispatch, liaising with Project Management, Production Office and Logistics.
- Confirm items and quantities against load lists, verifying dispatches using barcode scanning and STRUMIS.
- Coordinate loading and transport arrangements and prepare or support dispatch documentation.
- Update inventory records following each dispatch and assist with investigating missing or incorrect deliveries.
Reporting, Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Provide regular reports to the Production Office Manager on stock accuracy, storage capacity, discrepancies and dispatch status.
- Work closely with Procurement, Production Planning, Yard/Stores, Project Management, Quality, galvanisers and Transport/Logistics.
- Support and guide relevant employees in the correct use of STRUMIS, barcode scanning and digital stock-control processes.
- Identify inefficiencies in stock control, scanning, reporting or storage, and propose process improvements.

Authorities, Interface, Reporting and Supervision
- Reports to the Production Office Manager.
- Works closely with Procurement, Production Planning, Yard/Stores, Project Management, Quality, galvanising suppliers and Transport/Logistics.
- Responsible for maintaining STRUMIS system accuracy, inventory integrity and accurate storage-location records.
- Factory production control, manufacturing sequencing, shop-floor WIP and production progress remain outside the scope of this role.

- Work in a safe and responsible manner at all times, taking reasonable care for your own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by your actions in an office, yard or operational environment.
- Adhere to all company training, guidance, and safe working practices.
- Comply with all company HSEQ policies, procedures, and relevant legislation.
- Promptly report all accidents, incidents, near misses, hazards, or unsafe conditions to the HSE Advisor or appropriate supervisor.
- Report any system issues, errors, or inventory/quality concerns to your line manager or relevant authority.
- Ensure accuracy and integrity of information, records, and documentation in line with company requirements.
- Use all company equipment, including IT systems and barcode-scanning equipment, responsibly and in accordance with training and policy.
- Participate in risk assessments where required and comply with all identified control measures.
Skills, Knowledge and Attributes
- Experience in inventory, stock control, stores, materials or logistics coordination; experience within steel fabrication, manufacturing or engineering preferred.
- Good understanding of stock-control principles and experience using ERP, MRP or inventory-management systems (STRUMIS experience desirable).
- Ability to work accurately with barcode scanning and digital stock-control systems.
- Strong organisational skills and keen attention to detail across multiple projects and priorities.
- Good computer skills, including Excel.
- Ability to investigate stock discrepancies and follow issues through to resolution.
- Good communication skills to engage with Procurement, Production, Quality, Logistics and suppliers.
- Knowledge of structural steel sections, plate, steel grades and material identification (desirable).
- Experience controlling galvanised or subcontract-processed finished steelwork (desirable).
