Description
About the team and what we do:
The Sensitive and Complex Casework Team (SCCT) manages some of the most serious and sensitive cases within the Professional Regulation Directorate. The team plays a critical role in supporting regulatory processes by ensuring that concerns are progressed efficiently, information is handled appropriately and cases are managed in line with regulatory requirements and professional standards.
Working closely with colleagues across the organisation, the team gathers information, coordinates enquiries and supports investigations that help the NMC fulfil its public protection responsibilities. The work is varied, fast-paced and often complex, requiring a collaborative approach and a commitment to delivering an excellent service to all those involved in the process.
Your role and impact:
As an Investigation Assistant, you'll provide vital administrative and casework support to help ensure cases progress smoothly and efficiently through the early stages of the fitness to practise process. You'll work closely with Paralegals and Senior Paralegals in supporting a range of activities that contribute directly to fair and effective case progression.
You'll be responsible for maintaining accurate case records, coordinating enquiries, handling sensitive information and acting as a professional point of contact for a range of stakeholders. Depending on business need, you'll also have the opportunity to manage straightforward screening enquiries and develop your understanding of regulatory investigations.
In this role, you'll:
- Assist with the progression of casework by working closely with lawyers, paralegals and management, to carry out key enquiries and tasks on their behalf, within specified timescales.
- Maintain accurate records and update information on case management systems.
- Process and manage incoming correspondence and documentation, ensuring information is recorded accurately and promptly.
- Support the preparation of case documentation and maintain clear audit trails.
- Deliver a professional and responsive service to internal and external stakeholders.
- Contribute to continuous improvements across casework processes and procedures.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
