West Midlands Police’s Complex Enquiries Team has been entrusted with leading the force's response to Operation Beaconport. This major, National Crime Agency-led national policing investigation reviews historic, closed cases of group-based child sexual exploitation and abuse. The operation explicitly addresses missed lines of inquiry and human error, whilst empowering victims with a choice in these reinvestigations.
Applications are invited for a Police Staff Supervisor to join this vital, newly formed team. This is a fixed-term contract running until 31st March 2029.

The successful candidate will assist the Detective Sergeant in supervising investigations returned to the force by the National Crime Agency, alongside overseeing broader Public Protection Unit investigations. As Investigation Supervisor, you will ensure all enquiries strictly adhere to Beaconport requirements, delivering a compassionate, trauma-informed service to victims while maintaining absolute diligence in investigating offences.
Key Responsibilities:
- Allocate enquiries and oversee thorough and expeditious investigations in accordance with policy and relevant legal requirements to maximise opportunities to bring offenders to justice.
- Ensure investigations are conducted in line with principles of Operation Soteria.
- Monitor and evaluate the submission of evidential files to the highest professional standards and ensuring evidential consistency.
- Attend Court and other hearings as required to present evidence.
- Supervise police constables and PSI’s on the team.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

West Midlands Police is a Disability Confident Leader - the highest level an organisation can achieve under the scheme run by the Department of Work and Pensions. As part of our commitment we operate a ‘Disability Confident Interview Scheme’ - all candidates who declare a disability and meet the essential criteria for the role will be offered an interview.
It is important to note that there may be occasions where it is not practicable or appropriate to interview all disabled people who meet the essential criteria for the job. For example: in certain recruitment situations such as high-volume, seasonal and high-peak times, the employer may wish to limit the overall numbers of interviews offered to both disabled people and non-disabled people. In these circumstances, the employer could select the candidates who best meet the essential criteria for the job, as they would do for non-disabled applicants.
“Diversity and Inclusion Vision: Maximise the potential of people from all backgrounds through a culture of fairness and inclusion to deliver the best service for our communities”
West Midlands Police is the second-largest police force in the country, serving the three major cities of Birmingham, Coventry, and Wolverhampton, alongside the districts of Sandwell, Walsall, Solihull, and Dudley.
Against this backdrop, the force handles more than 2,000 emergency calls every day, while patrolling the streets and responding to incidents 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We have made significant improvements in reducing overall crime, improving call response times, and increasing arrest rates. This work can only continue with the right people, therefore as an employer of choice, we are looking for the right people who can serve and protect our communities.
