This is an excellent opportunity for someone who can demonstrate strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate and timely records. We are particularly keen to hear from applicants with excellent communication skills and some knowledge of criminal investigations, local authority revenue processes, and housing. If you are organised, analytical, and enjoy working with a wide range of people, we would welcome your application.
What will the role involve?
This is a full-time position, and you will be expected to work with the team in the office at least two days a week.
As the first point of contact for the Investigations Team, you will review referrals and allegations of potential fraud and irregularity involving or affecting the Council. You will conduct initial checks and enquiries, including searching information held on Wealden District Council systems, undertaking open-source internet research, and making and responding to formal information disclosure requests with external organisations.
Your responsibilities will also include supporting the Council’s participation in the National Fraud Initiative, producing transcripts of audio recordings, taking minutes at meetings, and assisting with the delivery of fraud awareness training and promotional activities. In addition, you will help coordinate and support the team’s involvement in regional networks and forums for local government investigation professionals.

Overall, you will play a key role in supporting an effective and professional Investigations Team, helping to ensure that investigations are conducted in accordance with relevant legislation, policies, procedures, and professional standards.
What skills, knowledge and abilities do you require for the role?
- Experience of dealing with customers and members of the public.
- Understanding of Data Protection and Freedom of Information issues.
- GCSE Maths and English Grade C or equivalent, or can demonstrate equivalent level of numeracy and literacy from a previous working environment.
- Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Has good ICT skills including experience in using Microsoft Office products.
- Some experience of using a Case Management Systems including handling personal and/ or sensitive information.
- Experience of working in a team/investigative environment would be desirable.
