Are you looking for a new opportunity to lead a Financial Crime Function?

As the J.P. Morgan Personal Investing Financial Crime Operations lead you will use your Operational and Financial Crime expertise to protect customers and the bank. You will report into the Head of J.P. Morgan Personal Investing Financial Crime Operations and lead our AML & Fraud Operations team based in London & Edinburgh and be accountable for leading and shaping the team, making it a great place to work whilst maintaining an effective control environment.

You'll lead and be responsible for the investigation of potential suspicious customer activity and reporting of this to the National Crime Agency. You will manage the quality of outputs within the team, to ensure the firm meets its regulatory requirements. Your leadership will be crucial in building the team, identifying and nurturing talented team members who can bring new skills and expertise. As part of this role you will opine on a number of Financial Crime Risks, shaping the business risk appetite for dealing with Financial Crime.

You must be a highly motivated individual with strong interpersonal and technical skills, you must be able to work effectively amidst ambiguity adjusting to workloads to meet evolving priorities, also be comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment while working with a diverse set of stakeholders and decision makers, working collaboratively with various departments to ensure robust fraud risk management and compliance with internal policies and external regulations.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage the overall Financial Crime Operations function for J.P. Morgan Personal Investing including team oversight (performance management, career planning, development, training), operational controls, and adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Act as a subject matter resource on SAR filing processes, financial crime legislation/regulations i.e. POCA 2002, UK Bribery Act 2010 and counter terrorist financing.
  • Ensure adequate staffing, with the appropriate skill sets, to successfully implement function objectives and effectively manage team capacity.
  • Direct oversight of the AML & Fraud Operations processes, ensuring all UAR / Referrals are reviewed, investigations conducted and where required SARS are filed in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Drive continuous improvements to quality of data, control reporting and associated metrics to monitor performance and increase consistency.
  • Partner with Product Development, Technology, Process Engineering and Compliance Stakeholders Controls to develop and improve services, systems, business processes and procedures to scale the operation and enhance productivity, ensure process efficiency and improve quality.
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership in the execution of key projects, programs and initiatives and for function.
  • Partner with Compliance, Controls and AML Oversight teams on interpretation and implementation of new Escalation and SAR filing policies managing directly the impact to the control environment.
  • Assess and manage changes to the control environment delivered though process, policy and technology change.
  • Ensure that team procedures and processes are up to date, accurate and reflect all policy and regulatory change.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Experience within financial crime in a Financial Institution.
  • Proven execution in a leadership role. Ability to prioritize and act with urgency in a changing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability for autonomous decision-making and accountability in a highly regulated environment.
  • Ability to interpret and apply regulatory and compliance policies and procedures when establishing guidelines, metrics, and processes.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with excellent written and verbal communication abilities, and experience in briefing executive-level stakeholders.
  • Ability to quickly build relationships and influence team members, colleagues, business leaders, and functional partners.
  • Experience in contributing to workstreams, facilitating stakeholder engagement, managing issues, and ensuring the timely and on-budget delivery of project deliverables.
  • Ability to think independently, with creative problem-solving skills and a passion for experimenting and developing innovative solutions to complex problems.

Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities and Skills

  • Preferable to hold or willingness to be working towards certifications and/or training in AML or Fin Crime (ICA, ACAMS etc).
