Position Title: Investigator – Citizenship by Investment
Department: International Investigations
Reports to: Senior Investigator (International Investigations)
Location: Office-based, with partial hybrid working options can be considered
Hours: 35 hours per week
Harod Associates is seeking an experienced investigator or due diligence professional to join the International Investigations team on a permanent basis, supporting Citizenship by Investment (CBI) and related international due diligence assignments.
The role will involve conducting investigations into individuals, companies and associated entities; gathering and assessing information from a range of sources; identifying relevant risks; conducting applicant identification interviews as part of the CBI due diligence process; and producing clear, accurate and well-evidenced reports in accordance with established templates.
This is a permanent, office-based role of 35 hours per week, with partial hybrid working options considered. The successful candidate will undertake casework in line with business and project requirements.
The successful candidate will join a busy International Investigations team be expected to work independently and collaboratively, manage assigned work effectively and deliver to the required quality standards and deadlines. A strong understanding of due diligence, compliance, AML and financial crime risks will be highly relevant to the role.
Key Responsibilities
Due Diligence & Investigations
- Conduct Citizenship by Investment due diligence investigations into individuals, companies, business interests, associates and other relevant entities; gather, review and analyse reliable open-source and database information; establish relationships and background context; identify reputational, financial, regulatory, criminal, political and other risks; recognise inconsistencies, information gaps and areas requiring further investigation; and apply sound judgement when assessing the relevance and reliability of findings.
AML, Compliance & Risk
- Apply AML, KYC, financial crime and compliance principles when conducting due diligence; identify and assess indicators relating to financial crime, sanctions, corruption, fraud, politically exposed persons, adverse media and other regulatory or reputational concerns; distinguish verified information from allegations and unsubstantiated claims; and maintain an objective, evidence-based approach within the wider context of each subject.

Reporting
- Produce accurate, clear, concise and logically structured due diligence and investigative reports in accordance with Harod’s requirements, ensuring that findings and proportionate conclusions are appropriately referenced, supported by evidence and suitable for client delivery; complete assignments within agreed deadlines and communicate promptly about any issues that may affect delivery.

- Handle sensitive client and investigative information securely and confidentially; conduct all work objectively, professionally, ethically and in accordance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements; use investigative resources responsibly; maintain appropriate research and evidence records; and collaborate effectively with Harod’s International Investigations team while working independently when required.
Person Specification
Required Experience
- 3+ years’ relevant experience in due diligence, investigations, intelligence, compliance, AML, financial crime, KYC or a related field.
- Demonstrable experience conducting Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) or complex background investigations.
- Experience researching individuals and corporate entities across multiple jurisdictions.
- Experience identifying and assessing adverse information and reputational risk.
- Experience researching PEPs, sanctions, financial crime, corruption, fraud and other relevant risk areas.
- Experience producing professional investigative, intelligence or due diligence reports.
- Strong experience using OSINT techniques and investigative databases.
- Experience conducting investigative or research interviews.
Desirable Experience
- Experience undertaking Citizenship by Investment (CBI) due diligence or closely related international investigations.
- Proficiency in additional languages.

- Analytical Skills: Strong ability to assess information from multiple sources, identify relevant facts and connections, and reach balanced and evidence-based conclusions.
- Research Skills: Highly capable researcher with the ability to locate, assess and corroborate information across open sources and relevant databases.
- Report Writing: Excellent written English and the ability to turn complex research into clear, concise and well-structured reports suitable for professional and client-facing use.
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail, particularly when reviewing large volumes of information and identifying inconsistencies or relevant risk indicators.
- Time Management: Able to manage individual assignments effectively, work to agreed deadlines and prioritise work according to the requirements of each project.
