Investment Analyst

LGPS Central is looking for an individual who is passionate about financial markets and passive investing, with strong analytical and communication skills, who is excited to support the growth and development of our internally managed investment capabilities. The successful candidate will join our Passive Investment Team as an Investment Analyst. Based in the Midlands (Wolverhampton), they will report to the Investment Director within the Passive team.

You will work within the Passive Investment department to help deliver a professional, high-performing investment function centred on the needs of our Partner Fund clients. The role supports the Investment Director and Portfolio Managers in the management, monitoring and development of LGPS Central's passive equity and gilt portfolios and mandates, including the integration of responsible investment and stewardship activities, whilst upholding the risk and compliance framework established by the organisation. Specific responsibilities include portfolio analysis, performance and risk monitoring, implementation support, reporting, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

Outcomes

  • Assist the Passive Team Investment Director and Portfolio Managers in implementing the strategy and investment process of LGPS Central's internally managed passive equity and gilt portfolios to meet Partner Fund objectives.
  • Support the Investment Director and Portfolio Managers by helping ensure investments are managed within agreed mandates, benchmarks, regulatory requirements and corporate policies.
  • Monitor portfolio performance, tracking error and key risk metrics, providing analysis and challenge where appropriate.
  • Assist in the integration and maintenance of Responsible Investment and Stewardship policies across passive portfolios, working closely with Risk and Compliance colleagues.
  • Support portfolio implementation activities including rebalancing, benchmark changes, index events and corporate actions.
  • Promote LGPS Central within the investment community and Partner Funds.
  • Embrace a culture of high-performing, collaborative, research-based and responsible investing across LGPS Central.
  • Take ownership of allocated projects, building effective relationships across investment teams, operations, risk functions and the wider business.

Technical Skills/Knowledge/Experience

  • Experience supporting investment processes within public markets, ideally passive strategies, gained within an asset manager or other financial institution.
  • Understanding of passive investment principles, index-tracking strategies and portfolio management processes.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret portfolio data, performance information and risk metrics.
  • Ability to document analysis, conclusions and rationale clearly and concisely.
  • High degree of professional ethics, integrity and judgement.
  • Highly organised, proactive and able to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Keen to contribute across all aspects of the role and provide support to the Investment Director and Portfolio Managers when required.
  • Strong interpersonal, collaborative and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and investment systems such as Bloomberg.
  • Ability to evaluate portfolio performance and risk objectively and present findings to stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics or a related discipline.
  • IMC gained and working towards CFA qualification or similar, or relevant investment experience.
