The Opportunity
Scotland and the wider North of England are home to some of the UK's most exciting early-stage technology companies: world-class universities, deep engineering talent, and a growing community of ambitious founders. PXN Ventures is the institutional, hands-on investor built to back them, and our Edinburgh office is in an exciting period of growth.
This hire is part of our deliberate scale-up of the Edinburgh team. We are building out our local presence and investing in the next generation of investors who will help define how PXN Ventures shows up in Scotland and the North. If you are at the start of your investment career and want to join a platform at an inflection point, this is that opportunity.
We are looking for one person to join us in Edinburgh at either the Analyst or Associate level. The level of appointment reflects your experience:
- Investment Analyst: our entry-level role, aimed at graduates, PhD candidates, and those with up to two years of experience; strong mentorship and a structured path towards the Associate level
- Investment Associate: for candidates with two to five years of relevant experience who can operate with greater autonomy and are working towards deal-leading responsibility
You will work closely with the investment team on live deals, support due diligence and financial analysis, manage the pipeline, and develop the skills to become an exceptional venture investor. The breadth of exposure on offer is unmatched in UK venture: experience across Institutional Funding, VCT, and EIS, from pre-seed through early Series A, across deep tech, enterprise software, hardware, climate technology, and life sciences.

Reporting to the Investment Director, you will:
- Support the investment team on live deals: financial analysis, due diligence, sector research, and preparation of investment papers
- Manage the opportunity pipeline, ensuring data integrity and timely processing of deals through our investment SLAs
- Conduct market and company research to identify high-potential opportunities, emerging sectors, and trends relevant to PXN's strategy
- Build foundational knowledge of legal documents, term sheets, and deal structures through involvement in live transactions
- Attend founder meetings, ecosystem events, and investor forums, developing your network across Scotland and the North
- Proactively share insights and opportunities that could strengthen the team's pipeline
Office-based in Edinburgh, with regular travel across PXN offices and portfolio companies.
What we are looking for
Relevant backgrounds include venture capital, investment banking, management consulting, corporate finance, high-growth startups, and STEM research. We actively encourage applications from PhD candidates and recent doctoral graduates: if you have spent years developing deep technical expertise and solving hard problems in engineering, computer science, physics, or life sciences, PXN's focus on university spinouts means that depth is genuinely valued here.
Beyond background, what matters is:
- Genuine curiosity about technology, founders, and how businesses are built; you seek to understand the reasoning behind investment decisions, not just the outputs
- Strong analytical skills: you structure qualitative and quantitative information clearly and produce accurate, well-considered work
- Clear written and verbal communication; you can summarise complex information concisely and for different audiences
- A real enthusiasm for being out in the world, meeting founders, attending events, and becoming a known and trusted presence in the Edinburgh and wider Scottish tech community
- Warmth and interpersonal confidence; you build rapport easily and people feel comfortable sharing openly with you
- Ambition to develop within venture capital, with genuine curiosity and an eagerness to learn and take on more over time
- Attention to detail across financial analysis, data management, and written communications
- A collaborative mindset; you contribute to collective targets and want to be part of a thriving Edinburgh office and community
- High integrity and the confidence to share opinions, ask questions, and act on feedback
- AI fluency: we want candidates who are already AI-native. Whether you have built your own agents, used AI tools to meaningfully accelerate your studies or early career, or automated parts of your workflow, we are looking for genuine hands-on engagement with the technology, not just an awareness of it
