Salary: £50,400 – £55,000 per annum
Location: Hybrid – London, EC1Y (40-60% in person) and homeworking
Right to work: Candidates need to have the existing right to work in the UK and for the duration of employment.

Better Society Capital (BSC) is the UK's leading social impact-led investor. Our mission is to grow the amount of money invested in tackling social issues and inequalities in the UK; we do this by investing ourselves and enabling others to invest for impact too.
Since 2012, we have helped grow the UK's social impact investment market thirteen-fold, to more than £11 billion, proving that impact investing can scale when social outcomes and investment opportunity are genuinely aligned. We have committed more than £1 billion of our own capital to social impact investments and today hold a live portfolio of over 100 across the UK, primarily made into funds spanning early-stage and mature positions, all working towards lasting impact for the people and communities they serve.
We're now delivering our 2026–2030 strategy: mobilising £20–30 billion in capital to positively impact 15–20 million lives across the UK over the next decade. We're focusing our expertise and capital on four challenge areas: housing, economic opportunity, climate and energy, and health. These have been chosen because each combines urgent social need, proven investment models and a clear role for BSC to play.
This is BSC's next chapter. Building on everything we've proven since 2012, we're scaling with greater ambition and sharper focus, and looking for people who want to help shape how we get there.
The Opportunity
We're recruiting an Investment Associate to support the identification, assessment and management of social impact investments that change lives, working alongside investors, social enterprises and government to help grow the UK's social impact investment market.
You'll help research and analyse the investments that deliver on BSC's 2026–2030 strategy: identifying social issues and market gaps, and supporting the partnerships, structures and solutions needed to mobilise capital at scale. You'll contribute to strategic projects that shape how BSC and the wider market tackle these challenges, building your experience as a future systems change agent.
Supporting the performance of our existing portfolio is just as central to our mission as finding new investments. You'll help build relationships with fund managers and support the monitoring of performance against expectations across financial, social impact and systems change goals.
Investment Associate and Manager Development Programme
We invest in our people as seriously as we invest our portfolio. You’ll accelerate your growth through hands-on experience across multiple asset classes, tailored training programmes and collaboration with sector-leading specialists as well as gaining direct exposure to our Investment Committee and senior leadership.
We deliberately rotate Associates and Managers across our investment team to build genuine cross-asset-class judgement, learning to manage performance, risk and relationships across very different types of investment. Few roles in impact investing offer this breadth. Over time, Managers will begin to specialise in one of our teams. We are hiring up to two Associates or Managers starting in the following teams:

Lending: You will work on assessing and managing investments across blended finance, social outcomes contracts and/or climate and energy vehicles and contribute to strategic projects aligned with our 2026-30 strategy.

Impact Investment Management: You will gain a portfolio-wide perspective, working on special situations and exits to protect and recover value across financial, impact and systems change; lead our overall learning approach; and lead on elements of portfolio insight.
What You Will Do

Support the origination and assessment of new investments
- Help identify social issues and market gaps where impact investment can be part of the solution, contributing to creative, collaborative solutions with investors, charities and government.
- Support detailed investment analysis of the market, the prospective investee, and the financial, social impact and systems change cases, working closely with senior members of the investment team and with fund managers to help build the relationships that underpin a strong investment case.
- Support the structuring of prospective investments, help prepare recommendations for our Investment Committee, and support legal negotiations through to close.

Contribute to systems change
- Support the development and delivery of key strategic projects in BSC's asset classes, building your experience and taking on more responsibility over time.
- Help develop relationships with fund managers, and support engagement with investors, charities and social enterprises to deliver on our strategic goals.

Support the performance management and manager relationships for a portfolio of social impact investments
- Support a portfolio of individual social impact investments, engaging with fund managers to help monitor and manage each investment's progress towards exit, financial returns, social impact and systems change goals.
- Contribute to analysis of impact and financial performance across your investments, including across asset classes and impact themes.
- Support special situations and the active management of exits as needed.

Support portfolio-level performance analysis and management
- Contribute to portfolio-level and asset class-level performance monitoring, including analysis of financial, impact and systems change performance across asset classes, strategies and impact themes.
- Help embed the lessons from the investments you’re involved in into how BSC manages performance and risk across the wider portfolio.

Help shape the next phase of our market-leading impact investment approach and team
- Contribute to our impact investing practice and process, in collaboration with colleagues across BSC.
- Contribute to organisation-wide initiatives and strategic projects that improve how we work and how we engage with stakeholders.

Other
- Participate in at least one ‘BSC Citizenship’ activity, helping to make BSC a great place to work. This could be helping to organise our summer or winter social, joining the Staff Council or helping with health and safety

Essential
- A passion and demonstrable commitment to improving lives in the UK
- Experience undertaking detailed analysis of social issues and/or financial considerations
- Work experience that faces the financial, social or public sector
- Proven relationship-building and influencing skills
