About The Role
CrossBoundary Group is a mission-driven investment and advisory firm specialising in unlocking capital for sustainable development in underserved markets, with 20+ offices and over US$12 billion in closed transactions. The Investment Director, Fund for Nature, drives investment strategy and executes transactions in nature-based projects across emerging markets, particularly Sub-Saharan Africa, reporting directly to the Head of Fund.
Key responsibilities
- Identify and qualify investment opportunities in reforestation, blue carbon, and sustainable agriculture through relationships with developers and intermediaries
- Lead comprehensive investment assessment including financial modelling, carbon methodology review, legal/regulatory analysis, and safeguards evaluation
- Structure and negotiate investment terms and prepare investment committee recommendations
- Monitor portfolio performance post-close, identifying risks and providing operational support to projects
- Cultivate strategic partnerships with carbon credit offtakers, co-investors, and technical partners
- Contribute to investor reporting with deal-level performance updates

Key requirements
- 10+ years’ investment experience, substantially in emerging markets
- Demonstrated track record independently leading end-to-end investments
- Hands-on emerging market experience understanding political and regulatory complexities
- Strong financial modelling capabilities including project finance
- Ability to assess environmental/social safeguards and community engagement considerations
- Excellent English communication skills
- Sound commercial judgement balancing financial returns with impact objectives

Nice to have
- Graduate degree in business, finance, or environmental science
- CFA certification or equivalent
- Familiarity with voluntary carbon markets, methodology frameworks, and MRV processes
- Established networks across emerging market geographies
- Language proficiency in French, Spanish, or Portuguese
Based in Nairobi, London, or another CrossBoundary office with frequent travel required. Candidates who do not meet every criterion are encouraged to apply.
