Investment Director – Private Equity (Lower Mid-Market)

Mayfair, London | Competitive salary, bonus and co-investment

The opportunity

Hamilton Bradshaw, the private investment office of James Caan CBE, is looking for an Investment Director to originate, execute and manage direct investments alongside James and the HB team.

We back established, profitable UK businesses, mainly in professional and business services, typically valued at £5-10m, with equity tickets of up to £3m. We invest our own capital, take an active role on the board and work hands-on with founders and management teams to grow the business and deliver a successful exit.

Hamilton Bradshaw has more than 20 years of experience investing in and growing businesses and has scaled and exited 20+ businesses. We are now looking for an individual who can help us do more of this, and do it well.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The role

Working closely with James Caan and the HB team, you will:

  • Lead deals end to end: screening, valuation, financial modelling, due diligence, structuring and negotiation through to completion
  • Prepare and present investment cases to the investment committee
  • Take board seats in portfolio companies and lead value-creation plans with management
  • Monitor portfolio performance, challenge management constructively and step in when businesses need support
  • Plan and manage exits to maximise returns

Who we are looking for

You are likely to have:

  • At least 5 years in a direct-investing role, ideally within the last few years, at a lower mid-market private equity firm, a family office, a co-investment platform or a similar principal investor
  • A track record of completed deals in the £1-10m enterprise-value range, ideally in professional or business services
  • Hands-on experience of the full deal cycle, from origination through to exit
  • Board-level experience in portfolio companies, including working with founder-led businesses
