Investment Manager
Cambridge
£70,000-£90,000 basic salary DOE
Established HNW & UHNW clients to inherit
IDEX Consulting are working in close partnership with a leading Private Bank to appoint an experienced Investment Manager to join their Cambridge office.
This is a particularly exciting opportunity for an Investment Manager with experience working with High Net Worth (HNW) and Ultra High Net Worth (UHNW) clients, offering the chance to inherit and develop relationships with an established portfolio of sophisticated private clients.
The Opportunity
The Cambridge office is entering an exciting period of growth, and the successful candidate will have access to an established HNW and UHNW client base from the outset.
Rather than joining a business where you are expected to build a book entirely from scratch, you will inherit existing client relationships and have the opportunity to establish yourself as a trusted adviser to a sophisticated private client base.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Taking ownership of an established portfolio of HNW and UHNW clients.
- Developing long-term, trusted relationships with clients and their wider professional networks.
- Understanding complex financial circumstances, investment objectives and wider wealth requirements.
- Providing a high-quality investment management service tailored to individual client needs.
- Working collaboratively with Financial Planning and other specialists to provide a genuinely holistic wealth management proposition.
- Identifying opportunities to deepen existing relationships and introduce clients to the wider capabilities of the Private Bank.
- Supporting the continued growth of the Cambridge office and contributing to its developing market presence.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

A Growing Cambridge Proposition
The office has an established presence in the market and is going through an exciting period of development.

You will therefore have a combination of established HNW and UHNW clients, new client opportunities and the platform to build your own relationships.
The role is supported by a strong team around you, including a Chartered Financial Planner, enabling you to collaborate across investment management and financial planning and deliver a comprehensive wealth management service to clients.

You will inherit established HNW and UHNW relationships, allowing you to focus on what you do best, understanding clients, managing their investments and building trusted long-term relationships.
At the same time, the continued success of the Cambridge Directors in attracting new HNW and UHNW clients means there is significant scope to become involved in the growth of the office and develop your own client relationships over time.
If you are an experienced Investment Manager with a strong HNW/UHNW background and are looking for a role where you can inherit established relationships while continuing to grow your own client franchise, contact Tom Roberts for a confidential discussion.
