Company Description

PXN Group is the fastest-growing venture and investment business outside London, bringing together Praetura Ventures and Par Equity to back the most ambitious companies across the UK. With offices in Edinburgh, Manchester, Leeds, and London, PXN Group delivers over ten investment programmes spanning Institutional Funding, VCT, EIS, Business Relief, and Natural Capital. We back ambitious founders through PXN Ventures and serve financial advisers and retail investors through PXN Investments. We are proud to have one of the strongest performance track records in the sector.

The Opportunity

Scotland and the wider North of England are home to some of the UK's most exciting early-stage technology companies: world-class universities, deep engineering talent, and a growing community of ambitious founders. PXN Ventures is the institutional, hands-on investor built to back them, and our Edinburgh office is in an exciting period of growth.

This hire is part of our deliberate scale-up of the Edinburgh team. We are building out our local presence and investing in the people who will define how PXN Ventures shows up in Scotland and the North for the next decade. If you want to join a platform at an inflection point and help shape what it becomes, this is that opportunity.

We are looking for an Investment Manager or Senior Investment Manager to join us in Edinburgh, covering Scotland and the wider North. You will source deals, lead investments end-to-end, sit on boards, and become a trusted name across the founder and investor ecosystem.

Critically, this role comes with a breadth of mandate that is genuinely rare in UK venture. As part of PXN Ventures you will invest across Institutional Funding, VCT, and EIS programmes, at stages from pre-seed through early Series A, and across deep tech, enterprise software, hardware, climate technology, and life sciences. Very few investor roles in the UK offer that range.

This is not a support role. You own your pipeline, your relationships, and your deals from day one. The level of appointment reflects your experience:

  • Investment Manager: lead investments with senior support, build your track record quickly
  • Senior Investment Manager: full autonomy and delegated authority, lead development of junior colleagues, visible leadership role in how PXN Ventures shows up in the market

About PXN Ventures

PXN Ventures backs exceptional founders at pre-seed, seed, and early Series A. We invest across deep tech, enterprise software, hardware, climate technology, and life sciences, with a particular strength in university and research spinouts. Our portfolio spans more than 115 companies across the UK.

We are active investors: board representation on every investment, genuine operational support, and a long-term commitment to the companies we back. Founders choose PXN for the network and the team, not just the capital. Our success stories span exits such as Street Group (the UK's leading property portal) and Current Health (acquired by Best Buy), through to portfolio companies that regularly rank among the fastest-growing companies in Europe, including Modern Milkman, Phlo, and Aveni.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Role Description

Reporting to the Investment Director, you will:

  • Source and build a proprietary deal pipeline across Scotland and the North, identifying high-potential companies early
  • Lead investments end-to-end: financial modelling, due diligence, deal structuring, term sheet negotiation, and legal execution through to close
  • Represent PXN on portfolio company boards: lead meetings, support founders on strategy, and drive value between sessions
  • Build relationships across the ecosystem: co-investors, angels, accelerators, university TTOs, and founder communities
  • Coach and mentor junior colleagues
  • Lead knowledge-sharing sessions for the wider investment team
  • Support PXN Ventures fundraising activity including investor presentations and events (Senior IM)

Office-based in Edinburgh, with regular travel across PXN offices and portfolio companies.

What we are looking for

We are looking for someone with two to six years of experience in venture capital, growth equity, private equity, investment banking, management consulting, or corporate and commercial law, with direct involvement in early-stage deal-making.

We also actively welcome experienced operators, founders, and technologists ready to bring that perspective to the investor seat: whether you have led a company, built a product, or served as a CTO or senior technical leader in a high-growth environment, that background is genuinely valued here.

A technical or scientific background in engineering, computer science, physics, life sciences, or a related STEM discipline is advantageous given PXN's focus on research-intensive and spinout companies.

Beyond background, what matters is:

  • A genuine passion for early-stage investing and a deep curiosity about technology, founders, and the problems they are solving
  • Strong financial analysis skills and the ability to form clear, well-reasoned investment views
  • A natural presence in founder and investor communities: you enjoy being out meeting people, you build trust quickly, and founders and co-investors gravitate toward you because of who you are, not just the capital you represent
  • Warmth, emotional intelligence, and outstanding interpersonal skills; relationships are built on genuine interest in the people across the table, not just the transaction
  • An entrepreneurial mindset and the confidence to operate with initiative and autonomy
  • High integrity, a positive and collaborative attitude, and sound commercial judgement
  • AI fluency: we expect our investors to be genuinely AI-native, actively using AI tools to enhance research, analysis, and productivity. Whether you have built your own agents, automated parts of your workflow, or developed sharp intuitions about where AI creates and destroys value in the companies you back, we want to see real engagement with the technology

At Senior IM level, you will additionally bring a track record of leading complex transactions autonomously and confidence in board environments.
