A Brief Overview
The Investment Solutions team develops, recommends, and executes liability driven investment strategies, including portfolio construction and repositioning, to support new funded reinsurance and acquisition opportunities in UK and Continental Europe. The Portfolio Manager (II) acts as a “deal lead”, responsible for all aspects of the asset strategy and asset risks underlying new business opportunities.
What you will do
- Develops transaction specific asset and hedging strategies that optimize excess yield vs. capital within regulatory, accounting, operating and risk management constraints.
- Creates target asset portfolios for live deals to deliver the required risk-adjusted return for the transaction in partnership with the wider of the Investments function.
- Works with the wider Investment team to determine best path to execution, including analysis of the client’s existing portfolio and the creation of a target portfolio given the portfolio strategy.
- Leads review of asset portfolios and wider considerations in relation to M&A opportunities in UK & CE.
- Communicates the target portfolio strategy to various stakeholders within RGA, including the C-suite, and gains approval for the target strategy.
- Negotiates investment guidelines and treaty terms with clients to deliver the flexibility necessary to manage asset risk and generate target return.
- Leads efforts to close the asset side of the transaction, including operational aspects of receiving the client portfolio.
- Directs the reposition required to move from the client’s portfolio strategy to RGA’s target strategy.
- Suggests and reviews new tools and frameworks to improve new business pricing process.
- Develops relationships and communicates effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Directs the efforts of analysts to support the transaction.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience:
Required:
- CFA and/or Actuarial qualification or relevant degree in Economic/Finance related field of study, with 15+ years relevant work experience alongside strong professional and/or academic qualification(s) related to the role.
- Advanced understanding of investment/market concepts, especially fixed income analytics (i.e. sector weightings, portfolio duration, performance attribution, convexity and term structure of interest rates, spread) and asset liability management.
- Expert understanding of investment/market concepts, especially in the context of insurance asset management.
- Demonstrable track record of the successful implementation of investment strategies, and/or M&A activity, especially in an insurance or reinsurance context.
- Problem-solving, structuring, technical and strategic mind-set.
Preferred:
- FIA or CFA charter holder
- 5+ years portfolio manager experience
- 5+ years alternative investment experience
- 5+ years fixed income management experience in an insurance client environment
- 10+ years in investment solutions, portfolio construction, LDI and/or M&A environment.
Skills & Abilities

- Highly advanced investigative, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Highly advanced Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel
- Advanced oral and written communication skills demonstrating ability to share and impart knowledge
- Advanced negotiation skills to assist with internal/external discussions
- Advanced customer relationship management and change management skills
- Highly advanced knowledge of asset liability management
- Advanced ability to set goals and handle multiple tasks, clients, and projects simultaneously
- Advanced ability to work well within a team environment and participate in department/team projects
