About The Role
National Energy System Operator (NESO) recognises the potential of bright and talented individuals, and we encourage you to join us as Great Britain’s energy system undergoes an ambitious, exciting, and vital transformation. Together with industry, we are creating a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.
The Investor Strategy Manager is a strategically important role that leads NESO's investor strategy capability, ensuring investor perspectives, commercial realities and capital market insights are understood and reflected in NESO's plans, decisions and programmes, supporting investor confidence and the delivery of the energy transition.
This role sits within NESO's Investor & Commercial Finance team, which uses commercial and financial insight to challenge and shape technical solutions, ensuring they are financially credible, workable and deliverable. The team asks questions like (What is the financial risk? What is the financial impact? How can this be made workable?) and uses the answers to support better decision-making.
Building and leading a specialist team, you will develop and embed NESO's investor strategy capability from the ground up, spanning investor relations and commercial advisory. As this is a new capability, you will be a strong contributor as well as a leader.
This role will be based from Warwick, and we continue to offer hybrid working from office and home.
Key Accountabilities
- Leading the development and delivery of NESO's investor strategy capability, translating organisational priorities, investor insight and market developments into a clear plan of work, and being accountable for the quality, pace and impact of the team's output in a complex and fast-moving policy and delivery environment.
- Building trusted relationships with investors and other capital market participants and identify and escalate material investor-related risks.
- Embedding investor perspectives into NESO's programmes and decisions early enough to shape them, working with teams across NESO to challenge assumptions and translate complex policy, regulatory and market developments into clear implications for investor confidence and capital deployment.
- Providing credible investor intelligence that informs strategic decision-making, maintaining a strong understanding of investor sentiment, capital market conditions, and emerging risks and opportunities affecting investment in the energy system, and ensuring insight is coordinated, accessible and consistently used across NESO.
- Leading commercial advisory work across NESO programmes and initiatives, developing and shaping commercial mechanisms, risk allocation, funding structures and financing approaches, and ensuring solutions are commercially credible, financeable and deliverable.
- Providing line management, coaching to specialists as the team grows, fostering a high-performing and collaborative environment.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Alongside this, we provide expert advice to government on how to deliver a clean power system by 2030.
In autumn 2024, the Electricity System Operator (ESO) transitioned to become NESO - an independent, expert public corporation with a whole-system view across electricity, gas, and hydrogen. NESO operates independently and transparently, always acting in the best interests of all energy users.
