About The Role We are seeking to recruit Temporary Exam Invigilators who will be based in Penryn. This post is to join the Exams Team invigilation pool on a temporary basis. There are 3 main exam periods throughout the year these are January, April-May and August. There are also Mid-term exams which run October – December and February – end of March, these are shorter exams and are spread out over several months rather than over a set period as with the main exam periods.
There Are Three Types Of Invigilation
- Standard main hall
- Specific provision (students with specific requirements)
- Online/computer based.
You could be allocated to any of these types of invigilation, on appointment when asked for your availability you will be asked to provide your preferences also.
Working Pattern: Monday - Saturday anytime between 7:30am - 9pm. Ad-hoc Basis.
Please be aware if you are successful in joining the invigilation pool you will have to complete four short online mandatory training courses and complete in house training.
Key Aspects Of The Role
- To assist with the setting up of venues for exams, laying out exam papers and materials.
- Assist candidates to find seats and prepare for the start of the exam.
- Ensuring candidates follow exam condition protocols at all times.
- Checking attendance and reporting.
- Dealing with queries raised by candidates.
- Supervising candidates at all times.
The salary will be £16.55 - £17.47ph inclusive of holiday pay.
About You
Essential Criteria:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally and confidently with students, academic staff, and colleagues.
- Ability to follow strict procedures and maintain confidentiality at all times.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and assertive within a pressurised environment.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Ability to supervise students effectively and ensure examination regulations are adhered to at all times.
- Basic IT skills, including confidence using email and online systems.
- Ability to complete mandatory online and in-house training requirements.
- Flexibility to work across a range of shifts during peak examination periods, including early mornings, evenings, and occasional Saturdays.
- Ability to carry out light physical duties such as setting up exam venues and distributing exam materials.

Desirable Criteria
- Previous experience of working within an examination, invigilation, educational, or customer service environment.
- Experience supporting students with specific provisions or within online/computer-based assessments.
- Knowledge or understanding of examination regulations and procedures.
- Experience working in a fast-paced operational environment.
- Confidence in dealing with unexpected situations and escalating issues appropriately.
- Experience using Microsoft Office applications or online learning systems.
