About The Company
At Engine by Starling, we are on a mission to find and work with leading banks all around the world who have the ambition to build rapid growth businesses, on our technology. Engine is Starling's software-as-a-service (SaaS) business, the technology that was built to power Starling, and a year ago we split out as a separate business. Starling has seen exceptional growth and success, and a large part of that is down to the fact that we have built our own modern technology from the ground up. This SaaS technology platform is now available to banks and financial institutions globally, enabling them to benefit from innovative digital features and efficient back-office processes that have contributed to Starling's success.
Our technologists are at the very heart of Engine and thrive in a fast-paced environment focused on building, creating, and disrupting technology to stay at the forefront of fintech. We operate a flat organizational structure to empower our team members to make decisions regardless of their primary responsibilities, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration. Support is always available within our open culture, where teamwork and shared goals drive us forward. Our environment encourages self-driven individuals who take full ownership of their work, from development and design to knowledge sharing and process optimization, ensuring we deliver the best possible results for our customers.
Our core values—Listen, Keep It Simple, Do The Right Thing, Own It, and Aim For Greatness—guide everything we do, inspiring our team to continually push boundaries and achieve excellence.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
