Network Design Engineer
Base location: Reading, Havant or Glasgow
Salary: £50k - £65k dependent on experience + performance-related bonus + a comprehensive benefits package supporting your family, finances, and wellbeing
Working pattern: Permanent, full-time, with the option of hybrid working
The Role
We’re looking for an experienced Network Design Engineer to join our team, helping to design, develop and enhance the IP and transmission networks that provide reliable, scalable, secure and cost-effective connectivity for our customers.
You’ll play an important role in ensuring network solutions are effectively planned, delivered and operated, applying your technical expertise across IP network and transmission design, troubleshooting and fault resolution.
As a technical specialist, you’ll also provide guidance and support to colleagues across day-to-day operational activities, complex network designs and the investigation and resolution of challenging network faults.

Working closely with cross-functional teams, you’ll ensure our network solutions meet business objectives, customer requirements and future growth demands.
What do I need?
We’re looking for someone with strong technical knowledge and practical experience in telecoms and network infrastructure. You should have:
- Strong telecoms infrastructure design knowledge.
- Strong knowledge of IP LAN/WAN connectivity solutions and associated technologies.
- The ability to produce detailed technical designs and drawings, including accurate bills of materials, to support the full delivery and build of proposed solutions.
- Confidence in providing technical expertise to Project Management teams during delivery and Tier 3 Operations during the commissioning of designs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Visio, and Excel.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate and resolve complex technical issues.
- A confident, proactive, and self-motivated approach.
- The ability to manage priorities and deliver projects on time and within budget while maintaining a strong focus on safety.

It would also be beneficial if you have:
- Experience in network planning and implementation.
- Knowledge or experience of Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) and SCADA systems.
- Familiarity with SDH/PDH, microwave, and teleprotection technologies.
- An understanding of ancillary infrastructure requirements, including space and power.
