IRATA Rope Access Technicians – Painting Experience
We are looking for experienced IRATA Rope Access Technicians with industrial painting/coating experience to join our team and support wind energy projects across the United Kingdom, both onshore and offshore.
The ideal candidates will have a valid IRATA certification and proven hands-on experience in industrial painting, surface preparation, coating application, and corrosion protection, preferably within the wind energy, offshore, marine, or heavy industrial sectors.
About The Role
As an IRATA Rope Access Technician, you will carry out painting, coating, and surface treatment activities in areas requiring rope access techniques.
You will work as part of an experienced international team, ensuring that all activities are performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, quality requirements, IRATA standards, and HSE procedures.
The role involves working at height in demanding onshore and offshore environments and requires a strong commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform industrial painting and coating activities using rope access techniques
- Carry out surface preparation, including cleaning, scraping, sanding, grinding, and other mechanical preparation methods
- Apply primers, intermediate coats, and topcoats according to project specifications
- Perform corrosion treatment and protection of wind turbine structures and components
- Conduct touch-up painting and coating repairs
- Inspect surfaces before and after coating application
- Ensure correct preparation and use of paints, coatings, tools, and equipment
- Follow coating specifications, technical data sheets, and project procedures
- Set up and use rope access equipment in accordance with IRATA requirements
- Perform work at height safely and efficiently
- Conduct pre-use inspections of rope access equipment and PPE
- Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition
- Complete required work documentation and reports
- Work closely with supervisors and other team members to ensure project targets are achieved
- Comply with all HSE, quality, and environmental requirements

Skills, Knowledge And Experience
- Valid IRATA certification – Level 1 or Level 3
- Previous industrial painting/coating experience is essential
- Experience with surface preparation, corrosion treatment, and protective coating systems
- Previous experience within the wind energy, offshore is highly desirable
- Good understanding of rope access techniques and working-at-height procedures
- Ability to use painting, surface preparation, and power tools safely and effectively
- Strong awareness of HSE requirements and commitment to maintaining high safety standards
- Ability to follow technical specifications, coating procedures, and work instructions
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work effectively within an international and multicultural team
- Flexibility to work rotational schedules and travel according to project requirements
- Physically fit and comfortable working at height and in challenging environmental conditions
- Right to work: Must be legally authorised to live and work in the United Kingdom
For IRATA Level 3 candidates: Previous experience supervising rope access teams and managing rope access operations will be considered an advantage.
