PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION:

MBP is a leading supplier of specialist building products and solutions to the UK construction industry. We are committed to delivering technical expertise, exceptional customer service, and high-quality products to contractors, developers, architects, and specification teams across a wide range of projects.

We are seeking an Ironmongery Estimator to join our growing team. The successful candidate will play a key role in preparing accurate quotations, interpreting project specifications, and producing ironmongery schedules for timber door set packages across a variety of construction projects.

If you have experience with door sets ironmongery products, we would love to hear from you. Full training will be provided on the estimating side of the role.

CONTRACTED HOURS:

40 hours per week (Monday – Friday 08:00-17:00) Flexibility is required to meet demand

ENVIRONMENT:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND PERFORMANCE MEASURES:

  • Review architectural drawings, door schedules, specifications, and tender documentation.
  • Prepare detailed and accurate architectural ironmongery quotations for projects throughout the UK construction market.
  • Specify appropriate ironmongery solutions for timber door sets, ensuring compliance with project requirements, fire regulations, accessibility standards, and relevant British Standards.
  • Produce comprehensive ironmongery schedules using industry-standard scheduling software.
  • Liaise with architects, contractors, door set manufacturers, suppliers, and internal sales teams to clarify project requirements and value engineering opportunities.
  • Source product pricing and technical information from leading architectural ironmongery manufacturers.
  • Ensure quotations are commercially competitive while maintaining compliance with specifications and performance requirements.
  • Identify opportunities for alternative product solutions and value-engineered options.
  • Maintain accurate records of quotations, schedules, revisions, and project correspondence.
  • Support the sales team during project negotiations and order conversion activities.
  • Keep up to date with changes in construction regulations, building standards, and industry best practices.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Proven experience within the architectural ironmongery sector (ideally to a minimum of 2 years)
  • Demonstrable experience specifying and scheduling architectural ironmongery for timber door sets within the UK construction market.
  • Strong understanding of architectural ironmongery products including Hinges, Locks and latches, Door closers, Exit hardware, Access control hardware, Door furniture, Seals and accessories
  • Ability to interpret architectural drawings, specifications, and construction tender documents.
  • Knowledge of relevant UK regulations and standards relating to fire doors, accessibility, and door hardware.
  • Strong commercial awareness and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Outlook

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS:

  • GAI (Guild of Architectural Ironmongers) Diploma Holder or working towards qualification.
  • Understanding of door set manufacturing and certification requirements (desirable not essential)
  • Experience working with contractors, architects, and main contractors on commercial construction projects.
