What’s in it for you?

Joining the Hakim Group means becoming part of a close-knit family of independent optical practices across the UK and Ireland.

We’re looking for a hands-on IT Engineer to join our growing team!

This is a small team, broad estate, real impact. You'll sit next to people who each have their own corner of expertise, and there's always someone to learn from and always something interesting going on if you go looking.

The team is genuinely diverse and we get on well; the vibe is informal but the work is serious.

We trust people to manage their own time. Kid needs picking up, boiler's broken, long lunch on a Friday: we work it out. In return, we expect ownership, quality, and the willingness to push back when something isn't right.

If you enjoy solving problems, improving processes and making a real impact, this could be the role for you!

You will also receive:

  • Exciting calendar of events, fostering a vibrant work culture.
  • Employee health plan to prioritise your well-being
  • Rewards portal with exclusive benefits and offers.
  • Embrace a supportive and expanding team, immersing yourself in our award-winning Hakim Group culture.

Join us at the Hakim Group and be a part of our continued growth and innovation. Contribute to shaping the way we work while enjoying a challenging and fulfilling career with us.

About the Role

You'll be the day-to-day technical backbone of the Hakim Group IT service desk: answering the phones, working tickets, getting people back to work fast. The pace varies. Some days it's heads-down on the queue. Other days you'll be elbow-deep in a project, new practice onboarding, migrating a system, or scripting away the next tedious workflow that's been bugging you.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

On the desk (most days)

  • First-line-and-then-some support for our colleagues across head office and 500+ practices, via phones, Teams and the ticketing system.
  • Work your tickets through to resolution, keep users updated, keep the queue tidy. We hold ourselves to fast first responses and clean ticket hygiene.
  • Standard BAU mixed in: new starter setups, hardware refreshes, practice openings, onboarding users to new tools.

Beyond the desk

  • Pick up workstreams on bigger projects when the queue allows: system migrations, security rollouts, integrations, practice openings.
  • Spot the inefficiencies in our day-to-day and have a crack at fixing them. Templates, KB articles, PowerShell snippets, runbooks, dashboards. Whatever helps.
  • Work alongside our Infrastructure and Security colleagues on anything that touches your remit.

Looking after each other

  • Document what you learn. The next person fixing this issue should find your notes.
  • Help the more junior folks when they're stuck.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to make technical concepts easy to understand.
  • A proactive mindset and a genuine desire to improve systems, processes and user experience.
