Job Role
As an IT Engineer at Springfields Fuels Ltd, you will help maintain, develop, and support the site's IT infrastructure and services that underpin critical business and manufacturing operations.
This role combines hands-on technical work with the responsibility of ensuring system availability, performance, and security across enterprise IT and industrial systems.
You will work with colleagues across Engineering, Operations, and Cyber Security to deliver reliable, compliant, and secure IT solutions that support Springfields' mission to produce nuclear fuel safely. You will report to Infrastructure Manager. Hybrid working is available.
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure and Systems Support
- Provide technical support and maintenance for servers, networks, storage, and end-user systems.
- Administer and monitor on-premise and cloud-based systems to ensure availability, performance, and data integrity.
- Support Windows and Linux environments, Active Directory, and associated enterprise applications.
- Manage patching, updates, and backups following company standards and security requirements.
Network & Security Management
- Support network infrastructure (LAN, WAN, VPN, and firewall configurations) in collaboration with network specialists.
- Ensure systems are configured and maintained securely in compliance with NCSC Cyber Assessment Framework (CAF) and NIS Regulations.
- Help implement security controls, monitoring tools, and access management processes.
- Work with the Cyber Security team to find and address vulnerabilities and incidents.

Service Delivery & Support
- Provide second- and third-line IT support to users across site operations, engineering, and corporate functions.
- Manage service tickets, ensuring resolution and user satisfaction.
- Support IT projects and change initiatives to enhance digital capability and resilience.
- Document processes, procedures, and technical configurations following ITIL practices.
Project & Modernisation Work
- Contribute to the implementation of IT improvement and transformation projects, including network upgrades, system migrations, and cloud adoption.
- Participate in the design and deployment of new hardware, software, and infrastructure solutions.
- Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to ensure quality, security, and compliance in service delivery.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure all IT systems and changes comply with ONR, NIS Regulations, and Westinghouse global security policies.
- Maintain audit readiness by ensuring accurate documentation and adherence to configuration control processes.
- Support our safety, security, and environmental management systems.
Qualifications
- Degree or HNC/HND in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Experience with IT infrastructure support and administration in a complex or regulated environment.
- Knowledge of:
- Windows Server and Active Directory administration
- Virtualisation platforms (VMware, Hyper-V)
- Networking technologies (TCP/IP, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, VPN, and Firewalls)
- Backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions
- Understanding of cyber security principles and frameworks (NCSC CAF, ISO 27001).
- Familiarity with ITIL processes and service management best practice.

Desirable Skills & Certifications
- Professional certifications such as CompTIA Network+ / Security+, Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), VMware Certified Professional (VCP), or Cisco CCNA/CCNP.
- Experience working within nuclear, energy, or other critical national infrastructure (CNI) sectors.
- Knowledge of cloud platforms (Microsoft Azure, Office 365, AWS).
- Exposure to OT/ICS environments and secure integration between IT and industrial networks.
- Security clearance (SC/DV) or ability to obtain.
