IT Field Engineer

Location: Abingdon, Oxfordshire (with travel to client sites)
Salary: £30,000 - £45,000 DOE
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

About Our Client

We are recruiting on behalf of our client, a market-leading Managed Service Provider (MSP) based in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, delivering exceptional IT support and project services to a diverse portfolio of customers. As they continue to grow, our client is looking for an IT Field Engineer to join their team, providing hands-on technical support and helping deliver network and infrastructure projects across their customer base.

The Role

As an IT Field Engineer, you'll split your time between on-site customer visits and remote support, with a strong focus on network installations and infrastructure projects. This is a hands-on, varied role suited to someone who enjoys being out on the road, working directly with customers, and getting stuck into technical projects as well as day-to-day support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site and remote technical support to a portfolio of our client's customers
  • Travel to customer sites to install, configure, and maintain network equipment including routers, switches, and firewalls (primarily Cisco and Fortinet)
  • Support the delivery of network infrastructure projects, focusing on on-site installation, configuration, and handover
  • Install, configure, and maintain physical and virtual servers
  • Provide support across Microsoft 365 and Azure environments
  • Deploy and manage Hyper-V virtual environments
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network issues in a timely and professional manner
  • Maintain accurate documentation of customer environments, installations, and support tickets
  • Liaise directly with customers to ensure a high standard of service and communication
  • Work closely with the wider service desk and project teams to ensure smooth project delivery and support handovers

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
