IT Field Engineer - 39 hours per week working 5 days from 7
Job Summary
The Field Engineer plays a key role in maintaining the day-to-day reliability of equipment and till hardware across Baynes' shop estate. The role is responsible for carrying out hardware swaps, on-site fault fixes and equipment installs across all shops, ensuring colleagues have working, reliable equipment with minimal disruption to trade.
Based at Lochore and covering the full Central Scotland estate, the postholder will travel to shops to carry out callouts, support new shop fitouts and refits, and assist with planned hardware refresh programmes as the estate continues to grow.
This is an excellent opportunity for a practical, reliable individual who enjoys hands-on problem solving and working independently across multiple sites. As Baynes continues to invest in its shops and systems, there will be opportunities to develop technical skills and take on wider technical support responsibilities over time.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out till, printer and other hardware swaps across the shop estate.
- Respond to shop callouts to resolve on-site hardware faults.
- Transport and install replacement equipment between Lochore and shop sites.
- Support new shop fitouts by installing equipment and till hardware.
- Support shop refits by removing and reinstalling equipment and till hardware.
- Support planned hardware refresh programmes, carrying out on-site change-outs across assigned shops.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment swapped, faults resolved and spare stock used.
- Take ownership of hardware and spares stock across Lochore (primary warehouse) and the two satellite stock locations, carrying out regular stock takes and keeping accurate inventory records.
- Liaise with shop colleagues and management to schedule site visits.
- Escalate diagnostic, network or system issues beyond the role's scope to the IT Manager or IT Engineer.
- Follow safe lone-working practices when travelling and working across the estate.
- Provide a professional, helpful point of contact for shop colleagues during site visits.

Efficient, Reliable Hardware Support Across the Estate
- Till, printer and hardware swaps completed promptly and to a high standard.
- Shop callouts resolved without requiring IT Manager or IT Engineer time.
Support Growth and Change Across the Estate
- Shop fitouts and refits supported effectively and on schedule.
- Hardware refresh programmes delivered efficiently across assigned shops.

- Hardware and spares stock kept accurate and well organised across all stock locations.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
The successful candidate will be a practical, reliable and customer-focused individual who takes pride in keeping equipment running and shops trading smoothly. They will be comfortable working independently, travelling across multiple sites daily, and managing their own time and workload. They will have a hands-on, can-do approach to fixing hardware issues, strong organisational skills, and a proactive attitude to keeping their van and equipment well maintained. The successful candidate will demonstrate flexibility, good communication and a willingness to support colleagues across the estate.

Essential Characteristics:
- Full clean UK driving licence.
- Experience installing or replacing basic hardware such as tills, printers and peripherals.
- Comfortable working independently, travelling across multiple sites daily.
- Well organised, punctual and reliable.
- Strong communication skills.
- Willingness to work flexibly to support shop needs across the estate.
Desirable Characteristics:
- Previous experience in a retail or multi-site equipment support or courier role.
- Experience with till or point-of-sale hardware.
- Basic hardware troubleshooting skills.
- Interest in progressing into a broader technical support role.
Salary And Benefits
The salary for this role is £32,000 per annum.
A company van and fuel card are provided for this role. In addition, we provide a contributory company pension scheme, free group life assurance, 30 days of holiday per annum, and up to 50% colleague discount.
