Field IT Support Engineer

We are looking for an experienced Field IT Support Engineer to provide technical support across a geographically dispersed group of sites. You will be responsible for maintaining and supporting desktop systems, networks and workplace technology, diagnosing hardware and software issues, and providing high-quality technical support to users both remotely and on-site. This is a customer-facing role requiring someone who is technically capable, proactive and comfortable working independently across multiple locations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site and remote technical support across multiple locations.
  • Install, configure and maintain desktops, laptops and other workplace technology.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, application and network issues.
  • Support Windows 10 and Windows 11 environments.
  • Provide Microsoft 365 / Office 365 support and administration.
  • Install and support business applications and software.
  • Support printers, mobile devices, meeting-room technology and other workplace equipment.
  • Troubleshoot LAN/WAN and general connectivity issues.
  • Proactively monitor systems and networks and identify potential issues.
  • Build and maintain technical documentation.
  • Assist with equipment replacements, deployments and site roll-outs.
  • Support new site implementations and site decommissioning where required.
  • Manage incidents and service requests through to resolution within agreed SLAs.
  • Escalate issues to third parties where appropriate and monitor them through to completion.
  • Work closely with wider infrastructure, support and technical teams.
  • Provide excellent customer service and build strong relationships with internal users.
  • Travel to different sites at short notice where required.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong experience supporting desktops and laptops in a technical support environment.
  • Good knowledge of Windows 10 and Windows 11.
  • Strong Microsoft 365 / Office 365 support experience.
  • Experience with application support and software installation.
  • Good understanding of LAN/WAN networking and connectivity troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of servers, networks and cloud-hosted solutions.
  • Experience supporting iOS and Android mobile devices.
  • Experience with MDT or similar desktop/laptop deployment and imaging technologies.
  • Knowledge of firewalls, proxies and antivirus solutions.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise workloads and use initiative.
  • A proactive, positive and solution-focused approach.
  • Full UK/EU driving licence.

Desirable Experience

Experience with any of the following would be advantageous:

  • ITIL V4 Foundation.
  • Sophos.
  • Mimecast.
  • PDQ.
  • Logitech meeting-room technology.
  • PowerShell.
  • ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus.
  • Enterprise application support.

Role Requirements

This is a predominantly field-based position, so extensive travel between sites is required. The successful candidate must:

  • Be comfortable travelling to different locations at short notice.
  • Hold a full UK/EU driving licence.
  • Be flexible regarding working locations and schedules.
  • Be comfortable with occasional early or late travel.
  • Be willing to stay away from home overnight when required.
