What to Expect
We are recruiting for Industrial Placement Interns to join our fantastic Core Technology team within IT & Digital at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, Surrey. As an Intern, you will gain hands-on experience across the Core Technology team while developing your skills in a world-class, high-performance automotive environment.
This is a 12-month full-time Industrial Placement designed to build your technical capabilities, commercial awareness, and confidence working across a fast-paced technology function.
What You'll Do
During your Industrial Placement, you’ll spend the year embedded in one of our core specialist teams, gaining meaningful, project-based experience and contributing to key operational and strategic objectives.
- Support the teams responsible for maintaining and enhancing McLaren's core technology platforms and services.
- Gain exposure to areas such as IT Operations, Infrastructure, Cloud Technologies, Cyber Security and End User Computing.
- Assist with the monitoring, support and continuous improvement of business-critical systems and services.
- Help investigate technology issues, identify root causes and contribute to problem resolution activities.
- Support the delivery of technology projects that improve reliability, security and user experience.
- Participate in cyber security awareness, governance and compliance activities.
- Work with colleagues across IT & Digital to understand how technology enables business operations across Engineering, Manufacturing, Commercial and Corporate Functions.
- Assist with reporting, documentation and analysis of service performance, trends and operational metrics.
- Contribute ideas to improve operational efficiency, automation and service delivery.
- Gain hands-on experience with modern workplace technologies, cloud platforms and enterprise IT services.

What You'll Bring
- Currently studying towards a degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cyber Security, Software Engineering, Data Analytics, Business Technology or a related discipline.
- A genuine interest in technology and how it supports business success.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- An eagerness to learn about infrastructure, cloud services, cyber security and IT operations.
- Basic understanding of IT concepts such as networks, devices, applications or cloud technologies.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain ideas clearly.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Confidence working independently while also collaborating effectively within a team.
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365 applications would be advantageous.
- A proactive approach to learning and personal development.
